The Portland International Airport, PDX, is often the first impression people have of Oregon, SW Washington, and the great City of Portland. From ground power units to airfield lighting, the PDX Maintenance Electricians keep the lights on at PDX. The successful candidate will maintain the electrical supply throughout the airport by replacing and repairing when needed. This includes maintaining the lighting on the airfields! Note: If you are a Journeyman Electrician licensed in Washington, Arkansas, Idaho, Maine, Montana, Utah, or Wyoming please let us know when you submit your application. The State of Oregon will grant reciprocity from these six states and you may qualify for a reciprocal license. If selected for this position, the Port of Portland will cover the cost of your reciprocal license application fee. Hours are set by seniority shift bid per the labor agreement. Shifts may include one weekend day; the successful candidate must be available to work a set day, swing, or graveyard shift. Most likely, the successful candidate will work a graveyard shift: Wednesday - Saturday .

The Portland International Airport is a big place, and this job helps maintain the electrical supply throughout the Airport which covers a variety of systems and equipment. If you enjoy troubleshooting issues, and performing repairs, calibrations, and working on replacements then there's a lot to choose from. Below is a list of a few of the things you'll have an opportunity to work on:

  • Maintain Electrical supply throughout the Airport systems including but not limited to pump stations, airfield lighting, lighting, lighting control, fire alarm, access controls, UPS, and generators.

  • Conduct maintenance of electrical distribution systems ranging in voltages from 15kV.

  • Trouble-shoot electrical and electronic controls, including relay logic, PLC programming.

  • Respond to equipment malfunction.

Education, Experience, & Licensing:
  • Oregon State Plant Journeyman license or higher at time of hire is required.
  • Knowledge of PLC-based control systems is preferred.
  • Experience with the following systems is preferred:
    • Electronic schooling in controllers, data-gathering, and solid-state controls.
    • Knowledge in access controls, fire alarm, and lighting control systems.
  • Maintain a valid state driver's license is required.
    • Class B commercial driver's license at time of hire is preferred; or the ability to obtain one within the probationary period is required. All CDL training costs and licensing fees will be paid for by the Port of Portland.
    • This role includes participating on the snow removal team during the winter months. For that reason, a Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) is required.
  • Must successfully pass and maintain clearance of a comprehensive Criminal History Records Check and a Security Threat Assessment for a PDX Security Badge, are required.

Selection Process (tentative schedule) :

  1. A minimum qualification evaluation of education, training, and experience of submitted application packets will take place by Human Resources the week of August 11, 2025.

  2. A Subject Matter Expert (SME) Panel will perform an evaluation of experience and training taken from your employment application materials including any responses to the supplemental questionnaire the following week.

  3. Our goal is to schedule virtual first round of interviews with candidates that successfully passed the SME evaluation the week of August 25, 2025.
