Job SummaryThe principal duties of the Line Mechanic occupation consist of performing the following activities: distribution and sub transmission line construction, maintenance and URD work, installation and removal of line equipment, service and street light installation and removal, transmission line construction and maintenance, substation construction and other miscellaneous duties. This employee regularly works aloft on de-energized and energized circuits; uses rubber gloves, sleeves, hot stick tools and other insulating devices as appropriate. This employee must respond to a reasonable amount of callout as necessary to restore customer service.
There is a State of Wisconsin indentured apprenticeship program associated with this occupation.

This employee regularly works aloft on de-energized and energized circuits; uses rubber gloves, sleeves, hot stick tools and other insulating devices as appropriate. This employee must respond to a reasonable amount of callout as necessary to restore customer service and other miscellaneous duties.
Minimum Qualifications- Applicant must have a valid drivers license and meet the companys requirements for driving. The selected applicant must obtain a commercial drivers license (CDL) in the State of Wisconsin (and Michigan, if applicable) within 90 days of entry into the job. Applicant must comply with DOT commercial drivers license (CDL) drug and alcohol testing requirements.
- The selected applicant must reside within 30 driving miles (Troubleshooters in areas with 24/7 coverage and all Electric Operations employees in the southeast Wisconsin areas, must reside within 40 driving miles) of their headquarters or, if applicable, their crossroads location. In addition, employees in Customer Operations headquartered at a location that has an associated service territory may also reside within the applicable service center territory. Such employees will be required to relocate to meet this residency requirement within 18 months from date of physical transfer.
- The selection process includes administration of the Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) test and a Working Aloft climbing test. NOTE: The Working Aloft Test date for this posting is To be Determined and there will be further details available as soon as possible. Please make every effort to be able to attend.
- In addition, candidates must be required to demonstrate their ability to perform the physical functions of the position by completing a Physical Capacity Evaluation.
- Electrical Power Distribution degree is preferred
- Completion of a certified accredited apprenticeship program and possession of a valid (current) journey-level line worker card
- Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) - Other level: Comprehension of pictured mechanical principles such as gears, levers, pulley systems, water flow, etc.; arithmetic skills in calculating distances shown in prints and drawings; and the ability to read and understand written material.
- Working Aloft Test (ALOFT): A one-day test of exercises simulating critical tasks performed on the job of Line Mechanic. This includes tying knots; climbing poles (up to 60 feet); climbing towers (up to 70 feet); performing tasks while on the pole or tower such as turning/reaching, carrying and installing cross-arm, installing service wire; and other physical tasks on the ground and on a pole. Instructions for performing the tasks and safety equipment will be provided. Maximum Posting Range: $58.07
The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.
