JOB SUMMARY

The Principal Design Engineer will be responsible for testing all our instruments as part of Hardware Qualification Assurance. This engineer will be responsible for designing test apparatus that will accurately simulate our product applications in the field. As part of this engineer's responsibilities, research into customer applications and the loads and stresses placed on our equipment will be necessary. This engineer will work closely with the Product Architect(s), Hardware design engineers, and Technical Application Engineering group in their role to provide thorough testing of the instrumentation before its release to manufacturing. This engineer will be responsible for creating comprehensive test plans that will be implemented to fully test Doble instruments and generate reports collecting the data from the testing performed. This engineer will also be responsible for designing test fixtures that can be used to calibrate our instruments. The products being tested will require the Engineer to employ a broad array of skills covering many areas of hardware design. As such, this person should have some familiarity in the following areas: Microprocessor designs, FPGA development (Verilog), analog measurement, analog filtering, digital filtering, A/D implementations, current and voltage amplifiers. We are looking for someone who has significant design strengths in small signal measurement, signal filtering topologies, and instrumentation. The Engineer must be able to participate in a team environment, while managing their own assigned responsibilities.

This role will be based in our Marlborough, MA office, reporting to the Director, Hardware Engineering.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Running simulations, where appropriate, to evaluate designs.
  • Responsible for all part selections, schematic capture, and supervising the board layout
  • Participate in the system design, experimentation, and prototyping of concepts for evaluation
  • Will have architectural oversight on product test development.
  • Bring new test strategies for qualifying hardware on new and existing products
  • Develop design specifications for hardware design and enhancements.
  • Develop schematics.
  • Run simulations, where appropriate, to evaluate designs.
  • Supervision of board layouts.
  • Effectively develop timelines for assigned work.
  • Debug and bring-up of new boards.
  • System integration and test development in team environment.
  • Lead Design verification and testing of the completed test apparatus.
  • Participate in project team meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in analog circuit design with a focus on instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with Microprocessor designs, FPGA development (Verilog), analog measurement, analog filtering, digital filtering, A/D implementations.
  • Design Experience with power amplifiers and switch mode power electronics (DC/DC, DC/AC)
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and insights on others' designs.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly in both written and oral communications.
  • Ability to independently plan and organize one's own activities.
  • Significant Experience with small signal measurements, and digital signal processing techniques.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE (Not Required):

  • Experience with power amplifiers.
  • Familiarity with Xilinx or Altera FPGA development tools (ISE Vivado/Quartus).
  • Familiarity with a schematic capture tool and layout tool.
  • Basic knowledge of Linux and firmware development (C/C++).
  • Basic experience with PC software and tool development.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB and one of the SPICE equivalents.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is often required to stand, sit, use computers, read, write, type, use copy machines, file paperwork, use telephones, and utilize written and oral communication to interact with clients, co-workers, and customers. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job. Must be capable of lifting 30 pounds. Must use assistance when lifting 50 or more pounds.

Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job related skills, as well as relevant education or training experience.

Salary Pay Range Minimum $137,042.07 - Midpoint $171,302.58
