This is a highly responsible position in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. The employee is expected to perform all duties to the best of their ability, act in a responsible manner at all times, demonstrate leadership qualities, and treat all staff, youth, and persons with respect. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for administration, oversight and inspection of work of maintenance and contract staff at the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) Campbell Juvenile Detention Center.
- Receives requests and complaints from facility maintenance and/or management staff regarding general maintenance upkeep, cleanliness and temporary or permanent installation/modification of walls, electrical circuits, heating/air conditioning and other building systems.
- Evaluates problems and requests then determines the required materials and staffing to meet the needs and complete requests.
- Orders necessary parts and supplies and maintains inventory.
- Makes written requests for specialized assistance for maintenance and/or repair projects that are beyond the scope of responsibility or expertise of facility maintenance staff.
- Plans and directs the maintenance operations of a DJJ Facility; Supervises all shifts of maintenance staff.
- Inspects and recommends repairs of all equipment and ensures preventative maintenance is completed as needed.
- Maintains written and electronic (FacilityDude) records of reports, complaints and completed requests.
- Directs facility maintenance staff with maintenance projects and develops project schedules along with providing instructions as needed in acceptable methods and procedures to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Assists in the coordination and execution of staff, equipment and furniture moves, working closely with branch manager, key central office staff and Kentucky Correctional Industries (KCI).
- Attends conferences, trainings, and meetings as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have five years of building maintenance, grounds maintenance, general trades, skilled trades, moving services or mechanical maintenance experience. Some of the required experience must include both records keeping experience and limited or full responsibility for work of others.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Formal training in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.

Working Conditions
Incumbents in this job title may be exposed to extreme temperatures which requires the following of safety procedures. Will be on call 24 hours a day.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
