NOTE: This is a TEMPORARY appointment (not-to-exceed 1 year). This appointment may be renewed for additional service in accordance with Agency needs for 1 additional year. Temporary positions offer health insurance (if the employee is expected to work least 130 hours per month for least 90 days) but do not offer life insurance or retirement benefits and may be termined any time before the expirion de. The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the installion , maintenance, repair of architectural, mechanical, and electrical components of buildings requiring the use of a variety of trades and practices.

Major duties and responsibilities will include:

Performing maintenance and repair of architectural, mechanical, and electrical components of buildings;

Installing, modifying, and repairing furniture items, doors, windows, floor coverings, baseboards, and signage;

Installing, modifying, and repairing plumbing and electrical systems;

Conducting inspections and performing routine maintenance on area of responsibility assigned;

Constructing/framing metal stud dry wall partitions and drywalling, mudding, taping, and plastering;

Pching and painting various surfaces;

Performing snow removal using vehicles for snow plowing, snow blowers, and shoveling;

Keeping storage areas clean, orderly, and organized to maintain an accure inventory of supplies, tools, and merials;

Planning and measuring various merials according to requirements and dimensions outlined in instructions;

Reading and interpreting work orders, instructions, sketches, blueprints, and building codes;

Using and maintaining equipment and tools common to various trades;

Performing preventive maintenance on shop tools and equipment to ensure safe and proper function;

Working with wood or wood substitute merials, gypsum board or fiber-cement board, concrete/rebar, glass etc.;

Installing lamine and protective covering on various surfaces;

Laying concrete block bricks and performing minor masonry repairs;

Performing reled duties as required.

(Screen-Out). Do you have the ability to perform the duties of the Maintenance Mechanic without more than normal supervision?

Reled experience includes using skills from a variety of trades; primary painting, carpentry and some locksmith duties performing some of the following duties; preparing painting surfaces by tinting, toning, mching, blending, and mixing in various additives using brushes, rollers and spray guns; constructing, installing, repairing, and modifying wood and wood substitute structure using associed hand and power tools; modifying hardware or installing different security options such as padlock and hasp and deadbolts.

Physical Requirements : Work requires significant lifting, kneeling, standing, climbing, and stooping. The Canandaigua VAMC is a campus like setting and considerable amount of walking is required. Strenuous physical exertion may be required when handling heavy/bulky merials such as gypsum wall board, plywood, and other building/construction merials. Use of manual and portable power tools for extended periods of time in uncomfortable positions. Work typically requires climbing on ladders, scaffolding, or other eleved work positions. Must be able to lift and move merials weighting up to fifty (50) pounds; with assistance may lift/move heavier items. Frequent standing, walking, and climbing are required while checking equipment.

Working Conditions: When working in shop areas ,exposed to modere or high noise levels from machinery, sawdust, glue fumes, and hazards reled to power equipment. When working project site, exposed to prevailing weher conditions and hazards associed with working around/ on scaffolding and ladders, and other heavy construction equipment. Subject to cuts, bruises, and contusions. May work in confined areas such as crawl spaces and tics th are typically dusty and dirty. Follows all Medical Center policies in regard to infection control and construction risk assessments. Uses all PPE as required.
