GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of entry to journey level skilled duties related to the manufacture and sale of compost, screen plant, heavy equipment operation, compost sales, sales tracking, truck driving, mowing, record keeping and computer skills. Operates waste treatment plant as needed.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager or Wastewater Treatment Plant Foreman.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Compost: Operates specialized equipment such as single & tandem axle dump trucks, front end loader backhoe, Vactor, screen plant, leaf king, mower and other similar equipment in the manufacture and sales of compost, maintenance and repair of various compost and waste treatment department projects.
Operates light equipment such as sweepers, mowers, asphalt rollers, cement mixers, pick-ups, compacting equipment, crack sealer, tack machine, and various hand and power tools as needed.
Performs manufacture of various types of compost, manufactures compost from raw materials, responsible for material tracking, product inventory, sales tracking, scheduling of deliveries and service providers.
Transport and deposits various construction materials such as sand, gravel, dirt, etc. Performs storm drain cleaning, repair and construction, cold mix patching, debris collection, etc.
Computer skills and cash handling skills are essential for generating reports. Customer service skills. Ability to read, understand and follow the plan of operation.
General: Performs preventative maintenance on equipment by checking oil and grease levels, etc., makes minor mechanical repairs as needed.
Performs general maintenance functions such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, routine electrical, pouring and finishing cement and similar duties; maintains, cleans and repairs tools and equipment.
Performs a variety of ground maintenance, yard clean up, general housekeeping, and construction work requiring the use of hand and power tools, such as building forms, framing projects, etc.
Assists on power, water, parks, refuse collection, wastewater treatment plant and cemetery projects as needed.
Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1.Education and Experience:
a.Graduation from high school or equivalent
AND
b.One (1) to four (4) years' experience in a field directly related to above duties;
OR
c.An equivalent combination of education and experience.
2.Special Qualifications:
Must possess a valid state of Utah driver license.
Must obtain or possess state of Utah Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL), including tanker endorsement, within probationary period.
Must be a certified flagger within one year.
May be required to become HAZMAT certified.
Must be able to lift 75 pounds.
Must be willing to work on-call duty.
Will be required to respond to snow removal events.
Regular and reliable attendance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Knowledge of drawings and specifications, grades, machinery, materials, and methods of constructing roads, drainage systems, culverts, etc.; safety standards related to road construction; hazards common to heavy equipment operation; equipment maintenance and repair; legal liabilities associated with street construction; right-of-way laws and ordinances.
Skill in the operation of mechanized equipment as required by the position, including grader, backhoe, street striper, loader, crack sealer, roller, leaf king/vacuum, compressor, TAC tank, snowplow, ten-wheeler, 5-ton truck, salters, sweeper, etc.
Ability to operate heavy equipment of various kinds under varying conditions; make minor repairs on assigned vehicles, perform heavy physical labor; develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, elected officials, local agencies and the general public; communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; work from blueprints; tolerate weather extremes in the work environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position requires work to be done in person and on-site. Tasks require variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, related to walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching and lifting. Talking, hearing and seeing are essential to performing required job functions. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity exists. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and discriminating thinking. Daily local travel required in normal course of job performance. Daily exposure to varying weather conditions and seasonal extremes. The schedule is 7:00am to 5:30pm Wednesday through Saturday April-October It is important to note that Saturday shifts are required between April-October. During the months of November-March the schedule is 7:00am-5:30pm Tuesday through Friday.
