Line Maintenance Supervisor

The tasks listed below represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

  • Supervises, coordinates, and provides overall leadership to infrastructure teams in the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of wastewater collection system gravity and force mains, trunk lines, service lines, manholes, and right of ways.
  • Supervises and coordinates the maintenance of right of ways, easements, and WRRF (Water Resource Recovery Facilities) grounds.
  • Approves the overall safety of the jobsite and relevant surrounding areas and sets the tone for achieving positive safety results on all projects.
  • Supervises subordinate crew members, sets schedules; instructs; assigns, reviews, and plans work for others, maintains standards, coordinates activities.
  • Selects new employees, addresses employee problems, recommends employee disciplines and discharges as appropriate.
  • Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy, evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate, provides training, advises and assists as needed.
  • Manages assigned budget, monitors expenditures and prepares related reports as required.
  • Coordinates workflows through CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Software) receives information, reviews and delegates work orders to staff.
  • Estimates and coordinates the use of available equipment, materials, and personnel to obtain maximum effectiveness and cost-efficiency.
  • Orders supplies, parts, materials, tools, and equipment necessary for daily activities.
  • Coordinates and oversees the work of contractors on various construction and maintenance projects.
  • Hauls equipment and supplies to worksites when needed.
  • Supervises all emergency line repairs and performs on-call duties 24 hours per day for emergency response.
  • Inspects work in progress to completion and ensures compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, contracts, standards of quality and safety and gives technical advice and assistance to contractors, co-workers, and subordinates.
  • Monitors productivity and directs changes as necessary.
  • Prepares project reports and compiles technical data as required by regulatory agencies for managerial decision-making and reporting purposes.
  • Inspects equipment for proper and safe working condition, coordinates the timely maintenance and repair of equipment as needed.
  • Coordinates assigned activities and functions with other agency divisions, departments, and outside agencies as appropriate.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries, complaints, and requests assistance from customers and the general public regarding areas of responsibility.
  • Completes cost benefit analyses when requesting new equipment or the replacement of old equipment.
  • Serves on call 24 hours per day as scheduled to ensure uninterrupted service for customers.
  • Attends conferences, meetings, training, seminars, etc., as necessary to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills.
  • Management may assign additional duties as trained for and qualified to do so related to the work of the position as necessary.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Must possess a valid state Position A CDL drivers license or must obtain within (1) one year from date of employment.
  • Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent, both supplemented by verifiable, documented formal training, special courses or self-education that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two (2) years of college education or specialized advanced training in utilities maintenance or a closely related field.
  • Requires a minimum of four (4) years of experience in pipeline infrastructure construction, heavy equipment operation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Requires a minimum of two (2) years in a leadership role.
  • Must obtain a Class D Voluntary Collection Certification within one (1) year from date of employment.
  • Must obtain a Class A Voluntary Collection Certification within four (4) years from date of employment.
  • Must possess a solid knowledge and understanding of heavy equipment such as track hoes, backhoes, skid steers, etc.
  • Must acquire confined space entry and trenching shoring certification within ninety (90) days of hire date.
  • Must obtain additional technical/safety certifications as deemed necessary by manager.
