SUMMARY As an Electrical Apprentice you will work directly under the supervision of a qualified Journeyman or Master Electrician in the installation and repair of electrical systems, hydraulic, pneumatic and electronic components of both commercial and industrial styles of machinery and equipment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, other duties may be assigned) Helping install power supply wiring and conduit such as: EMT, Rigid conduit, MC Cable, strut, cabletrays. Assisting with troubleshooting electrical components, wiring diagrams, transformers, AC and DC motors, panels, and circuit. Helping to install, maintain, and repair electrical systems such as: switch gear, motor controls, electrical panels, CT cabinets, conveyor systems, ski lifts, lighting, and powersupplies. Measuring, cutting, and bending wire and conduit, using measuring instruments and hand tools. Tracing out short circuits in wiring, using test meter. Examining electrical units for loose connections and broken insulation and tighten connections, using hand tools. Constructing controllers and panels, using power drills, drill presses, taps, saws and punches. Cleaning work area and washing parts. Maintaining tools, vehicles, and equipment and keeping parts and supplies in order. Other duties as assigned, which could be directly related, or un-related to original position. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must hold a valid State of Vermont Driver's License and be eligible for enrollment on Jay Peak Resort's Motor Vehicle Insurance policy. Continued successful enrollment in the Vermont State Apprenticeship program. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read & comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, & memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one & small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Ability to work well under the supervision while following electrical code manuals. Eagerness to learn and to comprehend schematic diagrams, blueprints and other specifications required by our industry. Experience working with hand tools, power tool and electronic test equipment. Working knowledge of job site safety as well as ability to complete a company specific safety orientation. Prior experience with the operation of 4 wheelers and snow machines is a plus. Weekend and Holiday work schedules may be required during certain busy times of year. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions, working in high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. RESORT CONDITIONS This is a Winter Resort Area. It requires that work venues are varied, and in many cases include steep stairways, multilevel buildings and outdoor work areas, subject to very cold, sometimes wet or very sunny work sites. Some facilities are located at the base or bottom area and some are semi-remote and can only be reached by traveling via chair lift(s), skis or snowboards. Walking surfaces are frequently frozen, sloped and slippery. Proper footwear is a must, indoors and out.
