RND Architects is seeking a collaborative, community-focused architect to join our practice as a Project Architect.

Based in Durham, RND is an award-winning design firm specializing in renovation and adaptive reuse for higher-education, healthcare, and government facilities and institutions across North Carolina. We're looking for an experienced architect who brings curiosity, initiative, and a passion for projects that serve public facilities and institutions. The ideal candidate is comfortable leading projects, mentoring teams, and serving as a trusted client partner. Role Highlights
  • Lead architectural projects from concept through construction, providing both design vision and technical oversight
  • Prepare design and construction drawings in coordination with Principals and Project Managers
  • Coordinate day-to-day progress across internal teams, consultants, and contractors to ensure cohesive, high-quality outcomes
  • Mentor, support, and lead emerging professionals and contribute to a positive, inclusive team culture that fosters professional growth
  • Collaborate with Principals and Project Managers to navigate challenges related to schedule, budget, or scope
  • Represent the firm with confidence and professionalism

Requirements

  • Professional degree in Architecture and licensed to practice in North Carolina
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in architectural practice, with a strong background in public-sector work and demonstrated leadership managing projects of varying scale and complexity
  • Proven ability to translate conceptual design into technically sound, buildable solutions
  • Proficiency with key design and project tools such as Revit, Bluebeam, SketchUp, and Microsoft Projects
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable leading consultant coordination, client interactions, and internal team collaboration with clarity and confidence
  • Thorough understanding of project workflows, from pre-design to closeout
  • Advanced knowledge of building codes, construction standards, and project delivery methods, including awareness of risk, liability, and professional responsibility
  • Solution-oriented and growth mindset with the ability to take initiative while working collaboratively
  • Interest in contributing to firm growth
