Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoots and performs technical repair for problems or failure in electrical systems, fire panels and systems and low voltage systems. Identifies equipment or systems for repair or replacement. Tests, locates and repairs damaged electrical circuitry.
- Tests electrical equipment and parts for continuity, current, voltage and resistance.
- Responsible for submitting drawings and providing correct information for permitting purposes for Town electrical projects not covered by contractor work.
- Tests and makes recommendations for repair or replacement of electrical appliances including ovens, ranges, steam tables, washers, dryers, and other similar Town owned electrical equipment.
- Performs preventive maintenance, adjustments and basic repair to electrical systems. Repairs and replaces defective or worn electrical parts, including, but limited to motors, generators, light fixtures, pumps, controllers, switches, relays, plugs, lighting ballasts, circuit-breaker panels and other related equipment.
- Performs electrical work to include renovation, replacement and new installation of all lower-level power. Repairs and replaces lights, outlets, and breakers. Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs conduit and pulls new power cable. Installs and repairs wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment and components of electrical machinery following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics and blueprints.
- Provides leadership and oversees direction for outside contractors on electrical replacement and repair projects. May act as an internal consultant for divisions undergoing new construction/upgrades. May lead or coordinate assigned projects from planning through completion, including procurement, contractor oversight, quality assurance, documentation, and final closeout.
- Installs and connects power supply wiring, cables, conduit and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment.
- Repairs or recommends replacement of electrical appliances including commercial ovens, ranges, steam tables, washers, dryers, and other Town owned electrical equipment.
- May act as a subject matter expert to advise on-site personnel on electrical matters.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of electrical equipment and supplies, including the repair, adjustment, maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems.
- Works with contractors on major component replacement and evaluation of complex system problems.
- Orders supplies and maintains inventory for all electrical maintenance and repair work.
- Works closely with the Facilities Administrator on capital improvement projects and provides recommendations. Supports the development of project scopes, timelines, budgets, and resource needs for electrical capital improvements and internal facility projects.
- Maintains maintenance records and creates work orders through the computer-aided facility management system.
- Responds to complex electrical and other facility-related work orders.
- Operates simple to complex equipment in the maintenance and upkeep of area of expertise. This may include bucket truck, scissor lift and snowplow truck.
- Utilizes various manual, gas, and hand-held electrical tools and equipment in installation and upkeep of area of expertise. This may include, but is not limited to, saws, welders, drills, hammers, shovels, snow blowers.
- Assists contractors and provides information for construction projects.
- Maintains vehicle, tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating conditions.
- Shares on-call duty on a rotating schedule and responds to after-hours calls for service.
- Operates simple to complex equipment in the maintenance and upkeep of area of expertise. This may include bucket truck, scissor lift and snowplow truck.
- Utilizes various manual, gas, and hand-held electrical tools and equipment in installation and upkeep of area of expertise. This may include, but is not limited to, saws, welders, drills, hammers, shovels, snow blowers.
- Assists contractors and provides information for construction projects.
- Maintains vehicle, tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating conditions.
- Performs other building maintenance as assigned which may include, but is not limited to, painting, cleaning, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, room/event setup and preventative maintenance on municipal property, structures and facilities.
- Cleans/clears debris and refuse from Town property.
- This position will assist with snow removal for Town facilities, which will include light duty trucks, hand shovels and other snow removal equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
This position shares on-call duty on a rotating schedule, and responds to after-hours calls for service.
Minimum Qualifications:
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Education: High School Diploma or GED; supplemented by specialized training in electrical and/or electronic technology
Experience: At least one (1) year of previous experience in the installation, repair, replacement and maintenance of electrical equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Licenses and/or Certifications Required:
- Journeyman's License
- Valid Colorado driver's license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master Electrician License
- OSHA 10
- OSHA 30
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of methods, tools and equipment used in the repair of electrical and mechanical devices.
- Knowledge of electrical circuits and wiring and operating principles of motors.
- Knowledge of potential hazards of the materials and equipment used in performing tasks. Skill in operating machinery and equipment and utilizing tools used within area of expertise.
- Ability to accurately communicate with customers and contractors when general maintenance might disrupt or impact work.
- Ability to understand verbal information and instruction and explain information in situations which may adversarial.
- Ability to read and understand written material and ability to translate verbal communication into effective written material, e.g., reports and other documents.
- Ability to use basic mathematical skills in making basic calculations.
- Skill in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle to travel to various Town facilities.
- Knowledge of project management principles including scheduling, resource coordination, and cost control is beneficial. Ability to manage or assist with electrical or facilities-related proejcts
Physical Demands:
- Moderate physical work to include lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of up to 50 pounds
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle to travel to various Town facilities.
- Ability to perform coordinated movements such as operating hand-held electrical tools.
- Frequent lifting, carrying, walking and standing.
- Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach
- with hands and arms; and stop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate personal computer and office equipment.
- Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information.
- Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens.
Work Environment:
- Ability to physically access all areas of all facilities to perform duties, potentially in any weather and environmental conditions.
- Must be able to drive a work vehicle in all weather conditions any time of day or night.
Equipment Used:
- Operates simple to complex equipment in the maintenance and upkeep of area of expertise. This may include bucket truck, scissor lift and snow plow truck.
- Utilizes various manual, gas, and hand-held electrical tools and equipment in installation and upkeep of area of expertise. This may include saws, welders, drills, hammers, shovels, snow blowers.
- Uses standard office equipment including a personal computer system
- This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
