Position Summary
The Testing Operator performs various tasks within the Testing department, following direction from the Testing Manager or designee and other production supervisors. Responsibilities include assembling, loading, testing, and evaluating seismic isolators, maintaining accurate test logs, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. Operators use forklifts, pallet jacks, overhead cranes, and other heavy equipment. They are also involved in production planning, cost management, and production verification activities to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Operate overhead bridge cranes, hydraulic and pneumatic tools, and other industrial equipment to assemble and test seismic isolators.
Use LabVIEW software to operate test rigs and collect physical property data of isolators.
Produce test summaries and maintain accurate job logs using Microsoft Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
Participate in production planning by coordinating with supervisors to schedule tests and equipment usage effectively.
Assist in cost management by minimizing waste, reporting inefficiencies, and ensuring resourceful use of materials and equipment.
Conduct production verification by inspecting products and test results to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications.
Comply with all relevant ISO standards applicable to the Testing department.
Demonstrate constant awareness and concern for personal and coworker safety by:
Maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly workstation and production floor.
Actively participating in safety meetings, audits, and training sessions.
Safely operating forklifts and overhead cranes.
Report any issues, incidents, faulty operations, or product imperfections promptly to the supervisor.
Inspect outputs to identify mistakes or defects.
Halt assembly or testing immediately if machinery malfunctions or a major defect is detected.
Follow all safety, quality, and efficiency procedures to ensure smooth operations.
Inspect equipment before use to confirm proper setup and alignment.
Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
Required Skills & Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; prior experience in industrial manufacturing or construction-related industries preferred.
Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
Ability to follow instructions accurately and work both independently and as part of a team.
Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to quickly learn production equipment operations.
Knowledge of, and ability to comply with, OSHA safety and environmental regulations, including consistent use of PPE.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Experience or willingness to assist in production planning and cost management activities.
Ability to conduct thorough production verification and inspection.
Physical stamina and strength to perform manual tasks and operate equipment safely.
Self-motivated with strong organizational and time management skills.
Effective communication skills, including the ability to write, speak, listen actively, and interact professionally with all levels of staff.
Physical Requirements
Work environment may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes, dust, noise, lead, and variable humidity.
Prolonged standing and repetitive motions including frequent climbing, bending, and stooping.
Ability to walk extended distances in large production areas.
Frequent bending, twisting, and other physical movements.
Ability to lift, push, pull, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Use of hands for handling tools, controls, and equipment.
Ability to climb up and down from heights safely.
