Shop Foreman--Night Shift

Position Summary:

Responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of the CNC machining team. This includes overseeing machine setup, operation, and maintenance to ensure that production schedules are met, quality standards are upheld, and safety procedures are followed. The CNC Foreman works closely with machinists, engineers, and quality control teams to optimize machine performance, improve efficiency, and resolve production issues.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervise and coordinate the activities of operators and machinists to ensure efficient production processes.

Train and mentor new operators on machine setup, operation, and safety protocols.

Assign daily tasks, prioritize workloads, and ensure that production schedules are met.

Oversee the setup, programming, and operation of CNC machines, ensuring accurate production runs.

Ensure that machines are running at optimal performance levels, troubleshoot issues, and perform minor machine maintenance when necessary.

Conduct regular inspections of parts, using precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers) to verify tolerances and dimensions.

Work with the quality control department to resolve any discrepancies or issues with parts.

Conduct regular safety inspections of the CNC area and ensure that all equipment is properly maintained.

Monitor production metrics and identify areas for improvement in terms of machine utilization, setup times, and production rates.

Suggest process improvements and work closely with the engineering team to implement lean manufacturing techniques.

Maintain accurate records of machine maintenance, production output, and operator performance.

Qualifications and Requirements:

2 or more years in a leadership or supervisory role.

Strong working knowledge of CNC machines, including setup, programming, and operation (e.g., mills, lathes, grinders).

Experience with CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam, SolidWorks, or equivalent is a plus.

Attention to detail and strong communication skills.

Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings.

Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to train and motivate a team.

Familiarity with precision measuring tools and quality control techniques.

Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Safety Requirements:

Adhere to all Southland Steel Fabricators, Inc. Safety Rules, Policies, and Procedures

Maintain orderly and clean work area.

Attending all required safety meetings.

Inspect equipment each day to ensure it meets safety standards.

Must inspect tools daily before each use, to include extension cords.

Always use hand and power tools safely with correct guards in place.

Wear personal protective equipment in accordance with policy and adequate for specific tasks.

Wear specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to:

Fire/flame resistant clothing.

Heavy flame-resistant gloves.

Respirators when welding harmful metals or when ventilation is not adequate.

Steel/hard toe boots.

Hearing protection.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

Ability to stand for long periods of time.

Ability to occasionally pull, push, carry, or lift tools, equipment, or materials 50 lbs. or less.

Ability to withstand occasional bending, squatting, or crouching.

Ability to frequently handle (hold, seize, grasp, turn, etc.) tools, equipment, or material.

Ability to work in inclement weather conditions, including cold, heat, and humidity.
