Job Description Overview:

The ASUS Robotics & AI Center is seeking an experienced and talented Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our global research and development team. This role is critical in the development and refinement of mechanical systems and pipelines that are pivotal for pioneering advancements in AI, robotics, and cyber-physical systems.

We are looking for a proactive leader with a strong foundation in mechanical design, a proven ability to engineer robust solutions for complex systems, and the ability to collaborate effectively across global teams. The ideal candidate will bring a strong enthusiasm for problem-solving and a strong commitment to innovating within a multidisciplinary team dedicated to advancing the capabilities of robotics and AI computing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of mechanical components and systems using computer-aided design (CAD) tools such as Creo Parametric, SolidWorks, and CATIA, ensuring high levels of precision and reliability for advanced applications.
  • Lead a team of 3-5 engineers, providing technical direction and ensuring the successful execution of projects and adherence to deadlines.
  • Utilize computer-aided engineering (CAE) tools for simulation and analysis, optimizing performance and structural integrity.
  • Select appropriate materials and manufacturing methods, balancing strength, weight, flexibility, cost, and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs with electronic systems and intelligent controls.
  • Lead rapid prototyping with additive manufacturing (3D printing) to quickly validate designs and accelerate innovation.
  • Oversee testing and validation of mechanical systems, including durability and performance assessments under various thermal, mechanical, and operational conditions.
  • Liaise with vendors and manufacturing partners to ensure components and tooling meet specifications and resolve production challenges.
  • Manage the product development process from concept to production, including comprehensive documentation of designs, processes, and technical reports.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends in mechanical engineering and manufacturing technologies to drive continuous improvement.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proven track record of developing scalable pipelines for design, prototyping, and testing processes and designing parts and assemblies using CAD tools like Creo Parametric, SolidWorks, and CATIA.
  • Strong foundation in core mechanical engineering principles, including structural mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials science.
  • Proficiency in CAE tools for design simulation and analysis.
  • Experience in rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing techniques.
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturability (DFM) principles and machine tooling/fabrication techniques, including CNC machining and injection molding.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Successful track record of managing engineering teams.
  • Strong project management skills, including timeline development, resource allocation, and risk assessment, with a track record of leading projects from concept through production.
  • Flexibility to attend virtual meetings with the Taiwan-based team at least three nights per week and travel to Taipei as much as once per quarter for team collaboration and project needs.
  • Willingness to work in an office at least three days per week.
  • Ability to work confidently in a rapidly changing, fast-paced and results-oriented corporate environment where a high degree of flexibility is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Required Qualification s :

Years of Education

  • Bachelors degree or higher in mechanical engineering or a related field.

Work Experience

  • 1 0+ years of industry experience in mechanical design and engineering.

Working Conditions :

  • Typically working in an office environment with access to a lab
  • Requires sitting, operating a computer keyboard, telephone and other office equipment for extended periods of time
  • T ravel requirements : Up to 30% Travel International/Domestic

$150,000 - $200,000 annually is the estimated pay range for this role . The final amount will be determined based on the qualifications & experience of the candidate relative to the role.
