Job Title: Mechanic (Vehicles, Cranes, and Forklifts)
Location: Santa Teresa, New Mexico (Outdoor field-based)

Job Summary:
Highly skilled and adaptable mechanic to maintain, repair, and troubleshoot vehicles, cranes, and forklifts in an outdoor, on-site environment. The mechanic will be responsible for ensuring that all equipment remains in optimal working condition, minimizing downtime, and providing quick solutions to mechanical issues as they arise. This position requires strong problem-solving abilities, mechanical expertise, and the ability to work independently in various environmental conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
General Maintenance & Repairs:
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on a wide range of vehicles (trucks, cars, vans), cranes, and forklifts.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, identify the root causes, and provide effective repair solutions.
- Troubleshoot and repair engines, hydraulics, transmission systems, and electrical systems, including wiring and electronic controls.
- Replace or repair faulty components, such as brakes, exhaust systems, alternators, starters, batteries, fuel systems, and other critical parts.
- Ensure that all work complies with safety and environmental standards.
On-Site Inspections & Troubleshooting:
- Conduct pre-operational and post-operational checks to ensure the equipment is safe to use.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns or failures, performing emergency repairs in the field.
- Inspect equipment for signs of wear, corrosion, or damage and provide recommendations for preventive maintenance.
- Maintain accurate records of all inspections, repairs, and parts replacements for reporting purposes.
Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems:
- Inspect, repair, and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems used in cranes and forklifts.
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic leaks, pump failures, and system malfunctions.
- Ensure that fluid levels are properly maintained and that systems operate at peak efficiency.
Engine and Transmission Overhaul:
- Overhaul and rebuild engines and transmissions as needed.
- Test engine and transmission performance post-repair to ensure smooth operation.
- Replace seals, gaskets, bearings, and other components as necessary.
Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Comply with local and federal regulations related to equipment repair and maintenance.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure the worksite is secure during repairs.
Inventory and Tool Management:
- Maintain and organize an inventory of tools and parts, ensuring that all necessary equipment is available for scheduled repairs.
- Ensure all tools are properly maintained and calibrated.
- Order parts and supplies as needed, working within a budget to ensure cost-effective solutions.
Customer Service and Communication:
- Interact with site managers to explain the status of repairs, equipment functionality, and upcoming maintenance needs.
- Provide technical advice and recommendations to site managers on how to prevent future mechanical failures and extend the life of their equipment.
- Maintain professional and positive communication at all times, even under stressful conditions.
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Minimum of 1-3 years of hands-on experience working with vehicles, cranes, and forklifts.
- Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, diesel engines, and electrical systems.
- Prior experience in an outdoor or field-based work environment is highly desirable.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills and ability to diagnose complex issues in a wide range of equipment.
- Proficiency in the use of diagnostic tools, meters, and other mechanical instruments.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Comfortable working in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and dust.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs (occasionally heavier loads with assistance).
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, and crawl in confined or awkward spaces while performing repairs.
- Stamina to work outdoors for extended periods in varying environmental conditions.
- Comfort with working at heights (in cranes and other equipment).
Certifications (Optional but Preferred):
- ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification.
- OSHA certification for construction or general industry.
- Crane or forklift-specific certifications for operation and safety.
Work Environment:
- The majority of the work will take place outdoors, on site at the Santa Teresa yard.
- Frequent exposure to environmental elements such as dirt, dust, noise, extreme heat, and extreme cold..
- The mechanic may need to work at heights or in confined spaces while performing certain repairs or inspections.
