Responsible for managing assigned capital projects, from the pre-design stage through construction, installation of equipment and project closeout. Individual projects typically range from $20M to $125M, may be new construction or major renovation, are of varying building types and are executed via various project development methodologies. All of these factors are considered in determining the number of assigned projects at any given point in time. Primary duties include management of pre-design, design, construction, commissioning services, project cost control, schedule management, and quality assurance. Oversees the acquisition and receipt of capital equipment and coordinates with clients to assure efficient move-in and start up. Maintains project records, produces reports and ensures timely project closeout. Provides leadership to many individuals associated with each capital project and may directly supervise technical and administrative staff on a project specific basis. Projects can be generally located in College Park or other USM institutions throughout the state.
Physical Demands:
Work is performed in both an office environment and in the field. Incumbent must be able to work in a construction site environment and have the ability to work in a hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces and adverse conditions created as a result of construction. Incumbent must be able to wear and work in personal protective equipment. Work requires travel within the State of Maryland. Position is telework eligible up to 2 xs per week.
Preferences:
-Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in managing large-scale renovation or new construction projects, including oversight of architectural and engineering (A/E) design consultant services and construction administration.
-Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Management, or related field.
-Experience working on projects that used Building Information Modeling (BIM).
-LEED project experience.
-Experience managing projects greater than $ 20M.
-Professional registration or LEED accreditation.
Licenses/ Certifications:
-Must possess and maintain a valid Maryland Class C Drivers license or equivalent with fewer than 6 points (work requires travel within the State of Maryland). Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Five (5) years of professional facilities, operations, construction, or maintenance experience. Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge of design and construction management practices.Skill in oral and written communication.Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
