Job Summary:

The Distributor Truck Driver / Laborer is responsible for driving distributor truck and performing other manual tasks on paving job sites, providing support, and ensuring the smooth progress of projects. Union membership is required for this position.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Apply tack coat to road surfaces ahead of paving operations.
  • Perform various manual tasks such as laying out string line, digging, lifting, carrying, and moving materials
  • Assist in site preparation by identifying and removing obstacles and potential hazards.
  • Safely transport and handle construction materials, tools, and equipment as needed.
  • Assist in loading and unloading materials from trucks and other equipment.
  • Provide support to other skilled workers such as Operators, Flaggers, etc.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site throughout the duration of the project.
  • Properly dispose of construction debris and waste materials in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and protocols to promote a secure working environment, including consistently wearing and maintaining required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members
  • Promptly report safety concerns, hazards, or incidents to the appropriate personnel.
  • In-person attendance is required.

Other Required Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management to support project and operational needs.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and up to 150 pounds with assistance, frequently throughout the workday.
  • Willing and able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rain.
  • Flexibility to work outside standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by project schedules.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, and kneel for extended periods during the workday.
  • Able to perform physically demanding tasks consistently throughout the day.
  • Must possess manual dexterity to handle and transport tools, materials, generators, and construction equipment.
  • Frequently required to walk and work on uneven terrain, including natural ground surfaces, in varying environmental conditions.
  • May be exposed to high levels of noise, dust, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and other substances commonly present on construction sites.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no manual transmission restriction (required); A Class A CDL is strongly preferred.
  • Must maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment and the movement of mobile equipment
  • Ability to adapt to changing tasks and responsibilities based on project needs
  • Strong verbal communication skills and excellent attention to detail are essential.
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Represent The Gerken Companies to customers in a professional manner, supporting the company's goals.

Education and Experience:

  • Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited high school is required.
  • Basic knowledge of construction tools and equipment is required.
