About our Opportunity:

The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Crew Supervisor in the Public Works Department. The Public Works Department is responsible for overseeing construction, maintenance, and repair projects within the city.

What you'll be doing:

  • Supervising, directing, and evaluating assigned staff
  • Organizing, prioritizing, and assigning work to meet objectives
  • Estimating job costs and needed equipment, parts, and materials
  • Conducting on-site work reviews to ensure quality, safety, and efficiency
  • Supervising and participating in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment
  • Ensuring utilization of safety equipment and compliance with safety procedures
  • Responding to emergency situations involving operations in the assigned area
  • Processing documentation associated with department operations

About you:

We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related experience in construction trades, including paving, roadways, sidewalks, ditches and drainage installation is required.
  • Two years of direct report supervisory experience is highly preferred.
  • Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver's License (Class A or B with ability to obtain Class A within 90 days of hire).
  • Applicants with equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.

  • Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM (40 hours per week/4-day work week) with the possibility of night and weekend work
