Position Summary

The Learning & Development Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing training programs that enhance the skills, knowledge, and performance of employees at all levels of the organization. This role supports DCC Propane's mission of providing our customers with life's energy essentials with rock solid reliability by ensuring employees have the technical expertise, safety awareness, leadership capability, and customer service skills needed to excel. The L&D Manager will collaborate closely with the operations, safety, performance, compliance, and leadership teams to align training initiatives with business objectives and regulatory requirements. This role requires strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills, along with hands-on knowledge and experience in developing and delivering engaging training programs designed to meet the employee where they are in conjunction with the subject matter experts (SMEs). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the creation of career development plans, learning journeys, performance improvement plans, implementation and execution of training programs to meet the development needs of the employee population, as well as leading internship and apprentice programs.

As L&D Manager you will support the employee population throughout the company, oversee training initiatives, measure retention, analyze and report on training metrics to support informed decision. This position will have frequent interaction and exposure to DCC's executive leadership team in Lisle, IL.

Core Duties/Key Responsibilities

  • Training Strategy & Program Development - Develop and execute a company-wide L&D strategy aligned with organizational goals, safety priorities, and compliance requirements. Conduct training needs assessments in partnership with managers, safety, and operations teams to identify skill gaps and learning priorities. Design and oversee onboarding programs to ensure new hires quickly gain the knowledge and skills to work safely and effectively. Create and maintain career pathways and learning journeys for field employees, supervisors, and leadership.
  • Training Delivery & Facilitation - Deliver engaging, high-impact training sessions-both in-person and virtually-on topics such as safety, compliance, technical skills, leadership, and customer service. Oversee the development of e-learning modules, blended learning programs, and on-the-job training tools. Partner with internal subject matter experts and external vendors to ensure content is accurate, industry-specific, and up to date.
  • Compliance & Safety Integration - Ensure training programs are seamless between HR, Safety, Compliance and Performance teams and that all training meets regulatory requirements for the propane industry, including DOT, OSHA, and NFPA standards. Track and report on training completion rates for all employees. Work closely with the departments to reinforce industry best practices and company culture through ongoing learning initiatives.
  • Leadership & Employee Development - Build and manage leadership development programs for supervisors, managers, and high-potential employees. Support performance management processes by providing training on coaching, feedback, and career development, making sure that the organization's managers are equipped to engage in constructive and ongoing conversations, collaborate effectively when managing the team, and encourage leaders to actively participate in identifying and addressing performance gaps.Develop succession planning strategies to prepare future leaders.
  • Resources, Measurement & Reporting - Manage the Learning Management System (LMS) to assign, track, and report training completion. Establish metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of learning programs and adjust strategies as needed. Prepare regular reports for senior leadership on training outcomes, compliance status, and workforce development progress. Manage the L&D budget including vendor contracts and training materials. Maintains job descriptions and career path ladders for positions, including behavioral and technical competencies.

Position Qualifications

  • Required Education: Bachelor's/Undergraduate Degree; Master's Degree preferred
  • Fields of Study Preferred: HR, Education, Organizational Development, Communication, or related field
  • Certification: CPLP, SHRM, or HRCI certification required or attained within 6 months of hire
  • Required Work Experience:
  • 3+ years of proven work experience in L&D or other relevant experience
  • Experience in project management

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Microsoft Applications: Extremely proficient (in particular, Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Additional Technology: High technical capabilities with ability to quickly learn and utilize new technologies.
  • Travel: Ability to travel up to 30%
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills required

  • This position is hybrid and requires you to periodically work from an office environment with frequent travel to locations, training sites and field operations.
  • This position may require driving a vehicle for long periods of time. Must have a clean driving history and motor vehicle record.
  • Occasional outdoor work and exposure to propane operations during training activities.
  • Prolonged sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to position, transport, lift and/or move up to 15 pounds at a time.
  • Communicate with and exchange information verbally and in writing;
  • Move about in an office environment;
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
