Summary

Spire is seeking a Welder to work in the Hattiesburg, Mississippi operation. This position will be responsible for performing welding functions for the construction and maintenance of the company's distribution system.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyzes specifications, work orders and material safety data sheets to plan layouts, assembly and welding operations for new construction and maintenance of the distribution system; operates manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using appropriate welding processes; examines work to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Performs structural welding and fabrication on fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Performs duties and responsibilities of the Construction Crewman.
  • Performs general building and grounds maintenance.
  • All other duties as assigned

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • High School diploma or equivalent; one or more years of related experience and/or training
  • Must possess valid driver's license with acceptable driving record and the ability to drive a company vehicle.
  • API 1104 Welding Certification required.

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Knowledge of the methods, practices and procedures associated with the use of hand-welding or flame-cutting equipment.
  • Ability to read, write and interpret work-related documents.
  • Ability to follow standardized instructions and procedures without ongoing supervision; ability to work effectively alone or with others in a group or team.

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Ability to use hands to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls; walk, stand, climb, crouch, crawl, bend or twist; and lift or move heavy objects. Ability to work in confined spaces and maneuver in awkward positions. Ability to repeat the same physical or mental activities over and over.
  • Includes exposure to contaminants. Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Ability to work in very hot (above 90 F degrees) and very cold (below 32 F degrees) temperatures, and extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions. Requires working outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions.
  • Requires exposure to hazardous equipment and conditions. Requires exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites or stings.
  • Requires wearing applicable protective or safety equipment
