Project Overview:

Thacker Pass is the largest known lithium resource in the United States. Once complete, the mine and processing facilities will produce more lithium carbonate than any other facility in the United States by far enough to power 1 million electric vehicles per year.

As the EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas, Bechtel is responsible for managing and integrating the efforts of a team contractors engineering and building the facility. We are also managing procurement of about $1 Billion in goods and services.

Earth work began in 2023 and design and procurement of long-lead equipment is underway.

The project is located in the high desert and wide-open spaces of north-central Nevada about 25 miles from the Oregon border, 1 hour northwest of Winnemucca, Nevada and 3 hours northeast of Reno.

Planned with sustainability and the environment in mind, the facility will use its excess process heat to generate electricity and will recycle process water up to seven times. Once the second phase of the project is complete, Thacker Pass will produce more than 16 times the current U.S. output of lithium.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will liaise between engineering and field operations and provide guidance on executing constructability plans. You will lead construction design decisions, interdisciplinary reviews, and project staffing. You will monitor construction performance and review deliverables. You will use your expertise to improve Bechtels existing methods by initiating project assessments and implementing improvements. #LI-NP1

Major Responsibilities:

The Piping Field Engineer reports to the Area Field Engineer/ Project Field Engineer and is responsible for the technical oversight of all piping activities on the in their area. The selected applicant shall provide technical direction to the direct hire or s/c work force as well as supervision. The Piping Steel Field Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the piping related work.

• Must have experience with construction in all piping systems and components.
• Coordinate with supervision the work schedule and any material deliveries required
• Complete training requirements assigned.
• Preparation of pipe installation work packages
• Inspection of field installations and completion of associated documentation.
• Responsible for quantity take-off, control, reporting and forecasting for all piping and related quantities.
• Prepare field change documentation and as-built documentation as required.
• Interface with engineering office to resolve design and constructability issue.
• Assist superintendents and subcontractors in constructability and quality issues.
• Work with the suppliers to ensure compliance with project drawings and specifications.
• Prepare material requisitions, coordinate and review vendor drawings.
• Work with Procurement's expediting team to ensure the delivery of vendor materials to support the projects schedule.
• Interpret design drawings.
• Complete piping material take-offs.
• Assure that materials are stored properly to ensure environmental protection.
• Material receipt inspections as required.
• Reviews specifications, inspection reports, delivery schedules, instruction manuals and technical data.
• Assist with preparation of construction estimates.
• Recommend design or installation improvements to improve safety on the project.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• University/B.S degree in Mechanical Engineering is desired but may be waived if equivalent industry experience can be demonstrated.
• 6-8 years minimum field mechanical/piping engineering experience.
• Experience with Bechtel direct hire craft preferred
• Contract management experience
• Understanding of applicable Bechtel work processes including Standard Work Process Procedures is preferred.
• Experience in mining and metals
• Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs) including InfoWorks, TEAMWorks, BPS, PTR, eSub and other automation tools which are used on Bechtel projects is an asset.
• Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
• Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving ability
