Performs the review of traffic obstruction permits and traffic control plans while coordinating with contractors and other project stakeholders on acceptable work-zone conditions to minimize impact to local traffic to allow safe construction activities in the right of way.

Qualifying Requirements:

Your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will receive notice of your eligibility status.

  • WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show two (2) years of full-time experience in right-of-way management, construction, engineering, or a related field. (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)

  • EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show an Associate's Degree from a fully accredited institution in Engineering Technology or a related field. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding education/training verification.)

  • EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above.) The Total Qualifying Requirement is four (4) years. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding education/training verification.)

You must pass the written and/or performance examination(s) to have your name placed on the official Civil Service eligibility list for this position.   • Issues traffic obstruction permits for construction activities in the right-of-way, and advises contractors on acceptable working conditions.
  • Reviews "Maintenance & Protection of Traffic Plans", "Construction Management Plans", and other relevant site plans to ensure all modes of transportation can safely travel around the work zone.
  • Responds to traffic control-related inquiries from contractors, the public, and City officials regarding construction, permits, and work zone traffic control; sometimes outside of normal business hours.
  • Prepares accurate reports, notices, and other communications for road closures.
  • Manages area of responsibility in strict accordance with applicable laws, regulations and established policies.
  • Directs, coordinates, and/or conducts field inspections to determine the feasibility, practicality, and/or cost of various project alternatives as directed.
  • Prepares accurate sketches, plans, maps, charts, drawings, etc., using manual and/or automated methods as directed.
  • Researches property ownership, utility locations, and other data necessary for the design, implementation, and/or construction of projects as directed.
  • Maintains permit systems when required.
  • Performs other related tasks and duties as assigned or required.
