We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our Distributed Energy Resources (DER) team within our Buildings, Energy and Infrastructure (BEI) Group at one of our key corporate office locations including Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Raleigh or Charlotte for a Full Time Sr. Electrical Engineer. Key Responsibilities:

Engineering Design & Analysis

  • Lead electrical engineering design for utility-scale BESS, solar PV, and DER projects.
  • Direct and conduct technical evaluations of electrical equipment/systems, control systems, and prepare design computations and assessments.
  • Design and execution of solar, DER and BESS projects in C&I segment.
  • Perform steady-state power flow , short-circuit , load flow , arc flash , and protection coordination studies .
  • Conduct dynamic and transient stability simulations for grid-connected renewable and storage systems.
  • Develop one-line diagrams, wiring schematics, equipment specifications, and interconnection documentation.

Project Execution & Coordination

  • Serve as technical lead for multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Coordinate with utilities, ISO/RTOs, EPC contractors, and permitting authorities.
  • Review and approve vendor equipment specifications and ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and grid requirements.
  • Be responsible for completing electrical engineering design tasks within budget and on schedule.
  • Communicate and coordinate technical evaluations and designs, technical writing of reports and correspondence with other discipline professionals, as well as with a Project Manager and representatives of the client organization to complete work efficiently.
  • In addition, this person will have opportunity and responsibility to develop new work and clients related to electrical engineering services for utility and C&I clients.

Modeling & Simulation

  • Utilize ETAP and other simulation tools to model and analyze electrical power systems and performance assessment for design validation, protection studies, high-level constraint analysis, and network connection assessments.
  • Validate simulation models against field measurements and manufacturer data.

Standards & Compliance

  • Ensure designs comply with IEEE , IEC , UL , NFPA , NEC , and applicable interconnection standards.
  • Strong Knowledge in Grid Interconnection (GIA), transmission planning, PPA, commissioning procedures in CAISO, ERCOT and similar markets.
  • Keep abreast of evolving grid integration requirements for renewable and storage projects.
  • Review project designs and operating procedures to ensure compliance with NERC Reliability Standards and FERC regulations .

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering.
  • PE or ability to acquire PE quickly.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • High technical ability, interested in technology and staying current in his field.
  • Good ability to communicate and a self-starter.

  • You enjoy working with financial metrics and data analytics where applicable in understanding and deriving the best solutions
  • You have experience in electrical power engineering and drawing sets in CAD or Revit
  • Familiarity with MEP work for buildings and comfortable with the NEC, NESC, IEEE standards and a willingness to learn more
  • You enjoy thinking a bit outside of the box, coming up with creative ideas, and presenting them to the team, to clients, and to the world!
