Electro-Mechanical Technician

Objective :

Safely performs validations and repairs on railroad equipment to include: electronic, electrical, mechanical controllers, contactors, wire harnesses, and High Voltage systems while adhering to production schedules. Perform repairs using manual and power tools. Work on wide range of electronic equipment, computer systems, and mechanical equipment under the supervision of technical engineer/Manager. Perform automated and manual testing on multiple different types of equipment. Follow all electronic, electrical, mechanical and CFC safety requirements. Use MS Office programs to include Access for creating reports and analysis. Use SAP to input and track completed task. Train and assist other technicians on shop process and safety standards. Advise Technical Engineers and or Shop Supervisors as requested. Use MS Office programs for creating reports and product analysis.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities :

  • Adhere to established safety procedures in Technical Work Center and New Castle Facility.
  • Ability to assemble, validate, and repair equipment within the Electro-Mechanical Shop.

Electro-Mechanical Shop :

  • Validation, repair, and testing on wire harness assemblies
  • Operate test equipment to validate harness assemblies
  • Assemble, repair, and replace mechanical systems: wiring, connectors, and contactors, compressors, motors, fans, circuit breakers, valves, switches, and refrigeration piping.
  • Assemble and repair electrical and mechanical systems: wiring, contectors, and contactors.
  • Writing reports, recording data, and describing equipment failures.
  • Troubleshoot using schematics.
  • Familiarity with reading technical drawings, datasheets, and written work instructions
  • Problem-solving skills along with digital, analog, and mechanical experience
  • Working with compressed air and pneumatic tools and equipment.
  • Use precision measuring devices. Operate oscilloscope, digital multimeter, megger, hi-pot, high voltage DC & AC power supplies.
  • Safe use and operation of power tools to include but not limited to drills, pneumatic presses, pneumatic tools.
  • Safe use and operation of hand tools to include but not limited to wire crimpers, wire strippers, screwdrivers, pliers, hammers, wrenches, torque wrenches, files, and socket sets.
  • Cross train with other departments as workload demands. This can include work on HVAC, High Voltage, or electronics equipment.
  • Familiar with Windows operating systems.
  • Proper use of PPE while preforming daily tasks.

Education Requirement:

High school diploma or GED

An Associates Degree or equivalent technical experience and/or military technical training preferred

Experience:

Mandatory:

Experience with high voltage testing/validation.

Experience using standard electronic test equipment like Digital Volt Meter, Oscilloscope, and Hand Tools

Experience reading and interpreting Schematics

Desireable:

Knowledge of rolling stock maintenance

Working knowledge of safety management systems and safety risk assessment

Strong understanding of electronic principles, circuit design, and testing procedures.
