Your role within the team:

  • Accountable for delivering all HV substation designs and major equipment specifications in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and AtkinsRealis policies, including Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance, and Quality Control procedures.
  • Develop underground cable routing, conduit sizing, and trench plan layouts and sections for HV substations and distribution networks.
  • Perform critical design studies such as cable pulling calculations, photometric analysis, battery charger sizing, voltage drop calculations, and station service evaluations.
  • Prepare technical specifications and conduct bid evaluations for substation equipment including transformers, reactors, capacitor banks, circuit breakers, switchgears, instrument transformers, surge arresters, and switches for HV and EHV substations.
  • Review type and routine test reports of substation equipment and provide expert input on the selection of EHV/HV/MV equipment.
  • Collaborate closely with peers and other discipline designers to ensure accurate, standards-compliant, and high-quality deliverables that align with utility and industry best practices.
  • Assess the technical qualifications of vendors supplying materials and services for project use.

The ideal candidate:

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from a recognized institution.
  • A minimum of 8+ years of strong experience as a Designer in the field of high voltage transmission and distribution substations, demonstrating the depth of expertise required for this role.
  • Preferred experience with high voltage substation design standards.
  • Registered (or eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer with EGBC (British Columbia).
  • Solid understanding of North American codes and standards, including CSA, IEEE, and ANSI.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation, Inventor/Revit, ProjectWise and Electronic Document Management Systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in sizing major equipment and selecting appropriate materials for high voltage substations.

Expected compensation for this role is between $91,900 - $126,400 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
