This Mobile Equipment Operator position is located in District 04/Unit 710 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Highway Foreman 1. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Job Duties:

Operates the following heavy equipment, as needed:

  • Backhoes
  • Front-end loaders
  • Dozers (<140>
  • Dump truck (tandem axle or trailer dump)
  • Hot mix pavers (<40>
  • Skid Steer
  • Lowboys
  • Milling machines (<90>
  • Road planer
  • Road widener (<90>
  • Sweepers
  • Track hoes (excavators)
  • Roller

Operates a variety of lower-level equipment, including, but not limited to, winch truck, state body truck, or pick-ups as needed. Equipment usage is determined by the nature of the project. Must also operate other ME? 2 equipment depending on the work assignment. Shovels and rakes asphaltic concrete. Must assist in tire operations as needed.

Operates small motorized equipment, including, but not limited to, chain saws and pole saws. Provides Guidance to and oversees the work of lower-level operators, may act as lead worker, and may help in Completing Daily Work Reports for the crew in the Highway Foreman 2's absence. Maintains CDL, Class "A", reports CDL revocation to appropriate personnel in accordance with the Department's CDL policy (PPM#25).

Makes minor repairs to equipment and performs user maintenance necessary to keep equipment in clean, good working order, as well as services the equipment.

Compensation:

Mobile Equipment Operator 1: Class D, Chauffer's License will be required upon appointment. The starting salary for MEO-1 is $16.06/hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for every hour worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.

Mobile Equipment Operator 2: Class A, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. The starting salary for MEO-2 is $17.18/hourly; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00/hour for every hour worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.

Mobile Equipment Operator 1 Heavy: Class A, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. The starting salary for MEO-1/HEAVY will be $21.05/hourly.
