Description
Summary: The Town of Wethersfield is seeking an experienced dynamic and engaged Economic Development professional to serve as its next Economic Development Manager. This role will lead efforts to attract, retain, and grow businesses in the community - ensuring that Wethersfield remains a premier regional destination for commerce, hospitality, and investment. This position will also assist the Town Planner with community development projects and tasks. The Economic Development Manager oversees a range of impactful initiatives, including the administration of economic development tools such as tax abatement programs and small business loan programs. This role also guides branding and marketing strategies to promote Wethersfield as a thriving, business-friendly community committed to sustainable economic growth. As Economic Development Manager, you will lead strategic initiatives to attract new businesses, retain and grow existing organizations, and promote sustainable development across commercial districts.
Examples of Specific Duties:
Plans, develops, implements and makes recommendations on economic and community development goals and objectives for the Town as detailed in various plans and studies including the Silas Deane Highway Master Plan, the Old Wethersfield Master Plan and the Plan of Conservation and Development, and others as necessary.
Assists in the expansion and retention of existing businesses.
Attracts new businesses compatible with the community.
Recommends goals, objectives and strategies for economic development.
Provide support for and assist business development in all three (3) of the Town's business districts (Old Wethersfield, the Silas Deane Highway and Berlin Turnpike) with activities associated with economic development specific to these business districts.
Leading business attraction, retention, and expansion efforts aligned with Town goals.
Serving as the primary liaison to developers, brokers, property owners, and business leaders.
Designing and implementing branding and marketing strategies to promote Wethersfield as a business-friendly community
Qualification:
Master Degree in Business, Public administration, planning, finance, economics, urban development, or a closely related field, along with four (4) to six (6) years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience as determined by the Town Manager.
AICP and/or CECD Certification is a plus.
Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator's License
