THE POSITION
Engineering District 8-0 is excited to announce an opening for a full-time Transportation Construction Inspector within the Materials Unit, transitioning from traditional office work to hands-on field experience. This role involves conducting independent technical assessments and leading efforts in the testing and quality control of construction materials sourced from bituminous and concrete plants, as well as aggregate facilities. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
An employee in this role is responsible for testing materials produced at a designated material plant. This individual ensures that materials are properly extracted from stockpiles and oversees the execution of various tests, including gradations, specific gravities, absorption of bituminous products, as well as air entrainment and slump tests. The employee's primary duty is to verify that all materials meet the stipulated contract requirements, adhere to design criteria, and comply with departmental specifications. Additionally, this position entails the meticulous maintenance of all records related to the testing of materials. The employee is also tasked with preparing regular reports summarizing the tests conducted, sending material samples to the Department's central laboratory for further analysis, and providing training to personnel on the correct procedures for sampling and testing.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment
Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
