This is a regional position covering the following states: Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and North Dakota.
Job Summary
Leads the planning and contractor activities for multi-year, large-scale construction projects. Manages first-line supervision, planning, represented and non-represented employee activities for other small and large-scale construction projects; general oversight and leadership of contractor project prioritization; ensures projects are built to Company standards, specifications and requirements on schedule and budget. Works with project managers on constructability reviews, technical designs and cost-effective installations. Provides overall direction for jobsites, including coordination of multiple contractors, supervisors, and uses continuous improvement methodologies to ensure maximum construction cost effectiveness. Resolves or escalates project concerns; works with contractors and customers to identify scheduling solutions. Develops internal and external business relationships with vendors, suppliers and other organizations. Assignments are received in the form of broad goals and/or areas of responsibility; incumbent has broad latitude (within the defined scope of responsibility) for independent action in setting objectives and deciding how to proceed.
Key Accountabilities
- Performs site layout logistics for all major, multi-year construction projects within area of responsibility
- Ensures that contractors maintain appropriate qualifications and follow required policies and procedures during all construction activities
- Works in conjunction with the Quality staff to ensure practices and quality requirements are met
- Leads project safety efforts; performs field safety observations and immediately addresses any violations
- Oversees scheduled construction activities as well as high-level schedule adherence; ensures action plans are updated and communicated as appropriate
- Coordinates contractor construction activities on multiple projects to avoid interferences when working in common areas; facilitates coordination (meetings, schedules, etc.) between multiple contractors
- Monitors staff workload and productivity, and makes appropriate adjustments, to ensure construction schedules and standards are being met
- Works with the client/business unit partner to coordinate equipment tie-ins to existing facilities within approved schedules
- Leads the construction team to ensure timely completion of close-out activities and/or punchlist items with construction staff to compete all
- Punch-list items in a timely manner
- Performs/assists with start-up activities of all systems to support client/business unit partner schedules
- Performs and approves post-construction walk-downs of all systems
prior to Company acceptance from Contractors
- Identifies and implements process and procedure changes that results
in increased quality, efficiency and customer satisfaction
- Utilizes continuous improvement methodologies to plan, execute and
follow through on construction project best practices
- Assumes responsibility as key tag protection leader and/or job leader as outlined in applicable policies and/or procedures
- Reviews drawings, prepares construction plans and/or reviews contractors’ construction plans for adherence to Company construction process compliance
- Performs or ensures the accomplishment of the following core supervisory/management functions for a given group(s) within a business unit: planning, organizing, directing the performance of on-going activities and/or special assignments, staffing (employee selection, training, coaching & performance management, time entry), coordinating, reporting & budgeting
- May perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
- Technical training/certificate, Engineering Technology, Business, Construction Management or related field
- 5 years of job-relevant experience, including a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
Preferred:
- Associate’s degree or certificate in engineering, construction management, or other job-relevant discipline
- Experience in the implementation and use of an automated Enterprise Business System; experience with SAP would be considered a plus
- Proficient in the application of purchasing principles, theories and concepts
- Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
- FERC knowledge

- Up to 30% travel

Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee works at an asset location or project site. While working at the asset location and project sites, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, including cold/hot, wet and/or humid conditions, uneven or steep terrain and may work near moving mechanical parts and/or machinery. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration (see physical requirements above). The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate in the office but, may become loud at the project site
