Perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of the electric production plants including work on plant machinery, equipment and tools.

Display honest, trustworthy, and ethical behavior when dealing with internal and external customers.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Regular attendance that is punctual and dependable is required.

Perform regular preventive maintenance on plant machinery and equipment in order to ensure a minimal of breakdowns; oil and grease plant machinery and equipment; repair and replace all machinery and equipment as necessary.

Inspect plant facilities, valves, turbines, generators, pumps and engines to ensure proper working order of machinery and equipment; perform installation of new equipment; rebuild, clean replace and repair used equipment.

Maintain inventory of tools and equipment necessary to perform maintenance and repair activities; assist in requisition of parts as necessary to perform maintenance and repairs.

Prepare a variety of paperwork regarding maintenance and repair activities; assist in maintaining computerized records of activities.

Participate in maintenance and repair activities involving trades including carpentry, machinist operations, concrete work, roofing, masonry, HVAC related work, plumbing and welding; fabricate parts and tools as necessary.

Provide assistance to plant personnel and City departments in solving mechanical and operating problems; may provide instructional guidance to subordinate personnel as necessary or required.

Monitor and conduct regular checks of all equipment and machinery in the water well field, pumping stations, substations, reservoirs and electric production plants; read meters and make adjustments as necessary.

Maintain plant facilities and grounds including painting equipment and buildings; mow, trim, fertilize and water plant grounds; assist in changing chlorine cylinders.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Must be able to operate computer terminal and applicable programs.

Properly wear all safety equipment.

Must be able to see and read gauges, trouble lights and control panel screens.

Operate a variety of plant machinery, equipment and tools relative to maintenance and repair activities including trucks, tractors, welders, cutting torches and grounds maintenance equipment.

Diagnose and repair malfunctioning equipment based upon equipment readings.

Perform maintenance and repair activities including welding of parts and equipment.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

Two years of experience performing maintenance on industrial mechanical equipment or performing similar duties in a steam power generation facility.

Training:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in mechanical maintenance and repair or a related field.

License or Certification:

Employee must possess a valid driver's license and maintain insurability as determined by the City's insurance carrier. Click here to view our driver eligibility requirements.

Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, an appropriate, valid Class IV Water Operator's license within eighteen (18) months of date of hire.

Salary:

Position will start at the entry level of the City's salary table. Consideration may be given if experience exceeds entry-level qualifications.

Residency:

All Production Division Personnel must live within a 30-minute driving distance of 1035 W. Wildwood Dr, Grand Island, Nebraska. The shortest route available on Google maps will be used to determine commute time.

Working Hours:

Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Exam:

An exam will be administered to a selected amount of qualified applicants.

Other:

Candidates are subject to a background check.
