Position Overview

We are seeking a Design Engineer with strong SolidWorks expertise and experience in product quoting for fabricated metal products. The ideal candidate will collaborate with customers, project managers, and shop personnel to develop designs, create detailed drawings, and prepare accurate cost estimates for custom stainless steel projects.

The essential functions of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • Create 3D sheet metal parts and assemblies. Provide guidance to shop floor employees.
  • Work closely with senior engineers.
  • Create layouts, drawings, and illustrations of parts, sheet metal assemblies, components, and equipment using CAD software.
  • Create Parts Pages & assembly information from exploded views of CAD models.
  • Review and verify CAD files for accuracy, completeness.
  • Solicit and evaluate input from various sources concerning design layouts and functionality to meet project and customer requirements and manufacturability of parts.
  • Create, maintain, and/or direct the creation/maintenance of essential design information and documentation including models, drafts, schematics, and purchased part documentation as well as supporting technical publications.

Work Environment

The environment in which this employee works includes:

  • Regular, continuous use of CAD system. (Solid Works)
  • Office environment most of the time, plant environment part of the time, occasional outside work. Plant and outdoor conditions include variable heat and humidity, dirt, and noise; physical hazards such as powered vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic, sharp objects, and moving machinery, and working on or under equipment; hazardous materials such as diesel, gasoline, oils, grease, and paint.
  • Workdays of up to 8 hours or more. Overtime may occur on short notice.
  • Changing workloads and priorities.

Minimum Job Requirements

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Demonstrate appropriate CAD skills, including solid modeling (Solid Works experience preferred). Ability to pick up Solid Works quickly is a must.
  • Demonstrate excellent skills in organizing and prioritizing work in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Experience and/or interest in sheet metal modeling preferred.
  • Have appropriate reading and clerical skills.
  • Work well with others in a team setting.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge (or willingness and ability to learn) of PC based business tools including word processing, database, CAD, and others as required.
  • Have a good work record, including indications of strong self-motivation, high productivity, reliable attendance, attention to quality, ability to learn new skills, and a cordial, cooperative personality.
