Plant Superintendent- Fremont, NE
This is a full-time, exempt position.

Position Summary:
The Plant Superintendent will coordinate and oversee day-to-day activities of the Fremont soybean crush plant. This position is responsible for the safe, successful and progressive day-to-day operational activities, maintaining a sanitary workplace, directing the workforce and maintaining compliance with company policies, government regulations and regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, NEDEQ, FDA, USDA, HACCP, PSM, GMP, etc.). The facility processes soybeans into value added products and includes approximately 35 ADM and contractor colleagues.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Lead, develop, and motivate direct reports on their team.
  • Respond to plant, process, personnel, product, and environmental emergencies.
  • Ensure successful day-to-day operation of the Processing facility, in areas of safety, environmental, quality, and production.
  • Work closely with the Plant Manager to carry out plant specific goals and objectives. Plan strategically for both short- and long-term goals.
  • Involvement with the management of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with health and safety, environmental, food safety, sanitation and quality policies.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues in production, implementing operational procedures, optimizing yields and productivity, and controlling costs.
  • Ensure planning of maintenance and capital activities and adjust operations to support these activities.
  • Committed to developing structured and sustainable systems using Continuous Improvement and A2E principles and procedures. Actively promote, lead, support and fully participate in the Performance Excellence process.
  • Able to work effectively with the Centers of Excellence, Commercial teams as well as other members of management internal and external to the facility.
  • Maintain a high degree of availability to a 24/7 operation, including some weekends and holidays, with the ability to be on-call.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering preferred, or related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years production and supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated extremely strong commitment and leadership in plant health and safety programs as well as quality and food safety programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a food processing facility, employing GMP and HACCP methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills with all levels of the organization both oral and written.
  • Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Interpersonal skills employed include handling conflict, motivating, instructing, and training personnel in a fair, honest, and direct way.
  • Technical competence in mechanics, instrumentation, controls, calculations, and utility systems.
  • Ability to achieve and track KPIs.
  • Strong computer skills including experience with MS Office and Maximo.
  • Effective time-management, organization and prioritization skills to ensure optimal results and manage multiple ongoing tasks.
  • An ability to utilize independent judgment to solve problems, meet deadlines, strive for continuous improvement in all aspects of operations.
  • People management within a union environment is a plus.

    • The scope of the position may require exposure to and use of chemicals, solvents, and cleaners that may be hazardous and/or cause injury if specific instructions regarding their mixture, use, and disposal/storage are not properly followed.
  • Inside areas:
    • Spring / Summer: Temperatures in some areas of the facility will be up to or exceed 100 degrees.
    • Fall / Winter: Temperatures in the facility may be at or below freezing.
  • Outside areas:
    • Spring / Summer: Outside temperature may be up to or exceed 100 degrees with potential for high humidity. May be exposed to inclement weather conditions including, but not limited to, rain and wind.
    • Fall / Winter: Outside temperatures may reach freezing or below. May be exposed to inclement weather including, freezing rain, sleet, snow and wind.
  • Some manufacturing processes within the facility are highly reliant on machinery and other processing equipment and, as a result, noise levels may reach or exceed 85 decibels and require use of hearing protection.
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Able to traverse two (2) or more miles during the course of a workday.
  • Able to move about or to a work site by stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs and ladders or squatting frequently during the course of a workday. May require periods of prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Able to operate equipment to diagnose / detect issues with machinery, some of which may be located at different heights.
  • May require performing work on ladders, scaffolding, catwalks or other areas at heights and in a confined space.
