Beacon is a leading supplier of commercial doors, frames and hardware for new construction projects, providing products to clients nationwide. We are seeking a talented individual who is willing to join our dedicated team. Though this industry is foreign to many, it is a vital part of every commercial construction project. Beacon has been experiencing steady growth and we need individuals who are willing to invest in learning the industry and move up within our company. We are looking for a hardworking, detail-oriented, organized and energetic person to be a part of our estimating team.

This is a full time position - Mon-Thurs 7am-5pm, Fri 8am-12pm

Salary is based on experience and is negotiable

Responsibilities
  • Convert bids into database
  • Tracking progress of bids
  • Pursue new business through current customer relationships
  • Generate estimating team reports weekly
  • Maintain estimating team calendar and files
  • Set up and maintain a filing system for the estimating team to use
  • Ability to prioritize and organize proposals/bid information and stay up to date on upcoming projects
  • OBtain extensive industry product knowledge
  • Perform detailed take-offs and material calculations accurately, efficiently and prior to established deadlines
  • Read and understand architectural plans and specifications in order to provide correct products for each bid
  • Evaluate plans and specifications and work within contractors plan sites to find bid opportunities
  • Work directly with general contractors and vendors to negotiate bids
  • Update proposals as necessary in a quick and timely manner
  • Value engineer projects to meet owners financial needs and timelines
  • Utilize estimating software to create proposals in high pressure, tight deadline environments
  • Work on several projects at a time and keep them organized and orderly without getting them confused
  • Execute tasks and assignments in an effective and accurate manner
  • Maintain client and general contractor relationships by answering cost related questions and providing design and budgetary assistance
  • Return phone calls in a timely manner
  • Convert hardware specifications from one manufacturer to another without losing intent or function
  • Attend pre-award meetings and site visits as assigned/necessary
Qualifications
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and fluid schedule
  • Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure. Should be able to compute percentages, taxes and hourly rates.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Attention to detail and solid organization skills
  • Team player with a positive go-getter attitude
  • Comfortable learning new computer program systems with proficient computer knowledge and skills
  • Comfortable working in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat

  • Knowledge of commercial construction industry or experience with architectural plans and specifications a plus
  • Knowledge of construction means, methods, production rates and materials
