POSITION TITLE: Millwright
REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance
POSITION SUMMARY: Performs repairs and maintenance of District playground equipment, bathroom partitions and any metal classroom, kitchen or other facility equipment.
FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Essential Functions
- Reviews and prioritizes work orders for job assignments, inventory and/or supply actions on a routine basis.
- Performs millwright duties, including cutting, bending and shaping metals, sharpening tools, making parts from various materials using sketches and broken parts, welding of iron and steel and other ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
- Performs repair and maintenance of playground equipment at all District facilities.
- Performs repair or replacement of steel fencing.
- Repairs old or installs new bathroom partitions.
- Maintains and repairs all metal kitchen fixtures and equipment.
- Performs repairs and/or replacement of a wide variety of other metal equipment or fixtures in District classrooms and other facilities.
- Performs skilled millwright tasks in accordance with general standard practices of the trade.
- Performs all millwright finishing and related duties in a conscientious and safe manner.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Marginal Functions
- Installs and/or repairs picnic tables and all outdoor benches.
- Repairs or replaces any defective wheels on pianos, chairs and carts.
Physical/Visual Activities or Demands: Physical/visual activities or demands that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
- Standing, walking, climbing, stooping or crouching, kneeling, reaching, pushing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing.
- Normal attention with clarity of vision at 20 inches or less as well as 20 feet or more, the ability to adjust eye to bring object into sharp focus, and a field of vision that can be seen up and down or to right or left while fixed on point, all required.
- Moderate to heavy physical demand with regular lifting of light (1 to 25 lbs.) items and lifting of average to heavy items (25lbs. to over 60 lbs.) by hand or with mechanical assistance.
Environmental/Atmospheric Conditions: Environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
Subject to both inside and outside working conditions, with exposure to noise sufficient to make it necessary to shout, and with some exposure to a variety of physical hazards such as proximity to electrical current and/or moving mechanical parts, as well as adverse atmospheric conditions, with some present to the extent of being sometimes disagreeable.
POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education: Knowledge of repair and maintenance of metal fixtures and equipment and use of basic tools and equipment of the trade, requiring basic skills knowledge. Equivalent to graduation from a general or technical high school.
Experience: Requires a minimum of three years up to and including five years of experience as a journeyman millwright or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Skills and Abilities which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:
- Apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure. Perform the operations with like common and decimal fractions. Compute ratio, rate, and percent.
- Perform reading, writing, and speaking at a basic level.
Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:
Welding torches and equipment, grinder, fence stretcher, backhoe, electric powered and hand tools.
License(s)/Certification(s) Required: Welding certificates in Arc I-II-III desirable.
