Water Resources Engineer

Freese and Nichols, Inc.(FNI) is currently searching for a highly-motivated, passionate and experienced Water Resources Engineer to join our Central Texas Stormwater Group preferably in San Antonio, Texas. This team member will be responsible for leading production of flood risk and mitigation planning and design projects for public sector clients.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead production teams for H&H analysis and preparation of technical reports for diverse projects including open channels, closed conduit systems, drainage master planning and CIPs, detention/retention ponds, and mitigation of drainage impacts.
  • Provide support in managing projects, including maintaining schedules, tracking of project financials, and preparing monthly status reports with interest in directly interfacing with clients.
  • Work independently as well as oversee the work of teams of professionals and analysts.
  • Candidate will have strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills and will provide direction and mentorship to junior staff.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years' experience in stormwater management
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to become licensed within 6 months
  • Experience with a diverse range of software packages such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS (steady, unsteady flow, and two-dimensional), ICM, ArcGIS Pro, and the Microsoft office suite
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

  • CFM Certification and/or experience in floodplain management practices
  • Experience with the preparation of design plans, technical specifications, and opinion of probable construction costs for stormwater infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with streambank stabilization, channel restoration, desilting, and natural stable channel design.
  • Experience with development of FEMA flood studies, LOMRs and CLOMRs. Knowledge of FEMA RiskMap Program, Guidelines and Standards for Flood Risk Analysis and Mapping, preliminary and post-preliminary processing, and the Mapping Information Platform (MIP)
