The Prince George's County OfficeofCentral Services is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Carpenter - Locks and Keys Specialist(Carpenter 3A),grade, A15, in the FOM Carpenter ServicesDivision.

About the Position

This is a lead/supervisory craft work performed in conjunction with the construction/maintenance of County owned and leased buildings. The incumbent will design, plan and install finished carpentry and perform lock and key related work county wide. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Facilities Maintenance Supervisor or Facilities Manager in accordance with departmental policies, rules and regulations.

The Office of Central Services is a multifaceted agency of the Prince George's County Government providing government-wide, mission critical support services in the areas of facilities operations and management, building design & construction, real estate services, fleet management, and general services. Examples of Work

  • Serves as the County's Locks and Keys Specialist responsible for repairing and installing a variety of locks and locks devices.

  • Independently plans, installs, services, and maintains mechanical lock systems.

  • Disassembles locks such as padlocks, safe locks and door locks, and repairs or replaces worn tumblers, springs and other parts.

  • Changes pin lock cylinders and combinations.

  • Removes broken keys and repairs malfunctioning locks.

  • Cuts keys by code or duplication.

  • Maintains key and combination records.

  • Installs and repairs locks and furniture, cabinets and other items.

  • Plans, schedules, and leads subordinates to determine employee and material requirement and the appropriate work methods to be used on a construction/maintenance project.

  • Performs the more complex carpentry work in the construction/repair/maintenance of County buildings (i.e. floor, walls, doors, partitions, stairways, etc.).

  • Procures materials, tools, equipment, and supplies for fabrication/construction/maintenance projects.

  • Willingly and cooperatively performs tasks and duties which may not be specifically listed in the class specification or position description, but which are within the general occupational category and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's class for work.

Qualifications

  • Completion of high school or vocational high school
  • Two (2) years of responsible work experience in one or more of the carpentry trades

An equivalent combination of experience, training, or education which provides the required knowledges, skills and abilities may also be accepted

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of experience repairing and installing a variety of locks and locking devices

  • One (1) year of lead/supervisory level experience

  • Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties, if applicable.
  • Successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings, where applicable.
  • Be willing to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
