Introduction

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and the Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work The fundamental reason this classification exists is to provide technical supervision and management in the administration of city building, electrical, plumbing, gas, mechanical, and applicable housing and environmental, codes and ordinances. Employee responsibility is to assure adherence to zoning requirements, applicable standards of construction, maintenance, safety, and environment. Supervision is often exercised over subordinate inspection and office personnel. The work responsibilities are: supervises two or more full-time employees; confers with and assists architects, engineers, contractors, builders, homeowners, tenants and the general public; consults with inspections staff to review work requirements, status, and problems; and accepting additional assignments and performing administrative duties and associated or referred projects and tasks. Employee acts in the capacity of the Chief Building Official when required. Employee reports to the Chief Building Official. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Ten years of experience in building construction as an architect, engineer, inspector, licensed contractor, or any combination of these, including five (5) years in a leadership capacity.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Performance of tasks may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust pollen, odors, wetness, rain, temperature. Ability to climb ladders and flights of stairs up to 50 feet as needed to perform inspections of various sites and resolve difficult on-site problems.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Special Requirements Must have or obtain within six (6) months of employment, a certification as a Building Official or a license as an architect or engineer through a recognized certification or licensing program. Must have and maintain a valid Driver's license and an insurable driving record. Kind of Examination Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Inspections Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based on education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire. For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form and supplemental questionnaire completely. providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were. If more than five qualified applications are received, the supplemental questionnaire will be scored to rank the qualified applicants on the eligible register and tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order. This register will expire one (1) year after the register date.
