Streetcar Maintenance Supervisor

Requirements

MOS Code: 91X (Army), 94W (Army), 94Z (Army)

An Associate's degree or higher in Refrigeration and HVAC Technology, Electronics Technology, Diesel Technology, Automotive Technology or Advanced Welding Technology and two (2) years of journey level experience in trouble-shooting, repair, replacement or rebuilding components of a Streetcar, rail transit equipment or other mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, or electronic equipment; or a High School diploma, GED or higher and five (5) years of journey level experience in trouble-shooting, repair, replacement or rebuilding components of a Streetcar, rail transit equipment or other mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, or electronic equipment including two (2) years of lead work.

Licenses and Certificates: Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state. Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver's License or equivalent from another state within sixty (60) days of appointment. Passenger endorsement within six (6) months of appointment.

Special Requirements:

Positions requiring a CDL or of a safety sensitive nature are subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal regulations. Ability to obtain a Streetcar Operator certification within sixty (60) days of appointment.

General Purpose

Under general supervision, coordinate and oversee the day-to-day work of personnel and equipment in assigned areas of Streetcar Maintenance operations.

Typical Duties

Oversee and direct repair, maintenance, record keeping, office support and related fleet services. Involves: Supervise the servicing, cleaning and inspections of streetcar vehicles to ensure planned repairs and maintenance needs are met. Establish work priorities, assign tasks and monitor the work-flow related to repair and maintenance duties. Identify and address areas needing improvement. Conduct trackway inspections, route junction control interface, TPSS (Traction Power Substation) inspection and maintenance and conduct OCS (Overhead Contact System) line inspections.

Manage all aspects of preventive and corrective maintenance. Involves: Evaluate system requirements with regard to vehicle and infrastructure availability. Identify resource needs and allocate resources to avoid any negative impact on service delivery. Monitor pre-trip inspections on vehicles and assure that needed work is performed. Coordinate streetcar vehicle maintenance and repair activities and follow-up on reported defects to ensure repairs are completed in a timely manner. Recommend techniques, supplies, materials and/or approaches to assist staff. Direct and/or perform operation of street sweeper, transit bus for a bus bridge, tow truck or other commercial vehicles as needed.

Monitor and control streetcar maintenance operations. Involves: Review and assess the inventory of supplies, equipment, materials. Identification of parts, tools and other service needs. Ensures compliance to safety, hazard and related programs, policies and procedures. Implement and provide training programs, materials and related information. Review and inspect for compliance based on order, needs and/or other requirements. Prepare and maintain a variety of reports such as regularly scheduled and ad hoc reports. Respond to inquiries and/or complaints by providing accurate information and resolutions.

Supervise assigned staff. Involves: Assign, schedule and monitor work. Appraise employee performances. Assist in training new employees. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony. Track attendance, approve or disapprove leave requests and maintain attendance records. Enforce personnel rules and regulations, and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Promote the observation of safe work practices. Perform related duties as required. Involves: Perform duties of immediate supervisor or subordinate personnel as necessary to ensure continuity of operations during absences.
