Maintenance Zone Supervisor

This position is responsible for preventive maintenance, repairs, and inspections of all university buildings, utility systems, and life safety systems. This position provides working supervision of Multi-Craft Maintenance Technicians (I/II/III/IV) to carry out work assignments based on campus zones; manages time and material on projects, and performs inspections of external contractors for maintenance, renovations, and repairs to university property. Additional responsibilities include assisting both the director and assistant director with ensuring facilities are structurally sound, mechanically operational, electrically efficient, and safe.

  • Establish and maintain the multi-craft shop preventative maintenance (PM) program;
  • Coordinate repairs to all university buildings and structures;
  • Maintain records of PM and repairs performed;
  • Supervise the operation and maintenance of all university utility distribution systems, including electric power, gas, chilled water, heating water, domestic water, sanitary sewage, steam compressed air, and the energy management system;
  • Hire, train, and supervise MCMT employees;
  • Monitor safety regulations and procedures;
  • Make budget recommendations;
  • Respond to, and determine corrective measures, for emergency calls during nights, weekends, and holidays;
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Completion of bachelor's degree plus five years of experience; OR
  • Completion of an associate's degree plus 10 years of experience; OR
  • Fifteen years or more of directly-related experience is required.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:

  • Current, valid driver's license is required;
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification preferred;
  • OSHA 30 Hour Certification preferred;
  • Energy Management Certificate preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of automated energy management systems, current building and safety regulations/codes, and preventative maintenance programs;
  • Basic knowledge of carpentry, masonry, painting, construction and renovations, machinery, mechanics, plumbing, electricity, HVAC, boiler systems, locksmithing, and office management;
  • Knowledge of supervision and personnel management activities;
  • Ability to effectively interact with a diverse array of faculty, staff, administrators, students, visitors, and the general public;
  • Ability to work effectively in an extremely busy environment.
