Summary: The production line mechanic and welder combine the responsibilities of maintaining and repairing production machinery with the specialization of a welder. The position is crucial in manufacturing environments to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Performing routine checks and maintenance production equipment to prevent breakdowns
- Diagnosing and resolving mechanical, electrical, and sometimes even pneumatic or hydraulic issues affecting production lines.
- Setting up and configuring machinery for different production runs and products.
- Repairing or fabricating replacement parts for machinery using various tools and techniques.
- Working with management teams and machinery operators to minimize downtime and optimize production processes.
- Maintaining records of maintenance activities, repairs and part orders.
- Adhering to all safety procedures, requirements and regulations dealing with machinery, electrical systems, and potentially hazardous like confined spaces.
- Measuring, cutting, and preparing metals for the welding process using tools like bandsaws and torches.
- Utilizing various welding processes, burning, and cutting techniques to join or cut metal parts.
- Inspecting welds to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications, detecting flaws and adjusting as necessary.
Qualifications and skills required.
- Bilingual, speak/read/written English and Spanish.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, gears, bearings and shafts of diagnosis and repair issues effectively.
- Knowledge of electrical systems, circuits, motors, and troubleshooting electrical problems
- Able to identify, analyze, and resolve complex technical problems quickly to minimize downtime.
- Precision in work, particularly when dealing with tight tolerances and complex systems, is crucial for both mechanical tasks and welding.
- Handling tools, equipment, and welding torches with accuracy and control.
- Reading and understanding techniques drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine welding requirements.
- Collaborating effectively with other team members, conveying information correctly, and providing training or guidance as needed.
- Understanding blueprints, calculating measurements, math, interpreting plans and diagrams are essential.
- Staying up to date with new technologies in the mechanical and welding fields.
- Understanding and adhering to all safety requirements, regulations, and practices to prevent accidents, working conditions in a safety manner.
- Other responsibilities may be included according to the position and business requirements.

Education
- High School Diploma or GED
- Vocational-technical schools, colleges, combined with training programs in industrial maintenance and welding
- Industrial certification
Physical demands and work environment
- Able to lift heavy objects to 25 lbs.
- Frequent pull, push, bend, slouch
- Frequent use of hands, fingers and arms
- Frequently walking and sitting
- Clear vision and hearing
- Stand for extended periods
