We are currently seeking an Mechanical Project Engineer to join our Facilities & Infrastructure team in Philadelphia, Pa.

Position Summary:

In the exploration of advancing their career in project management the Project Engineer is able to take a project from conceptual design to completion for small to mid-sized projects with limited supervision and has frequent collaboration with client. Assists the Project Manager in achieving total project management for small to mid-size scale projects, which includes budgetary, resource alignment, client service and business development. Will assume a primary role in project design within specialized discipline, coordination, oversight, and client contact activities. Provides coordination and oversight for all project disciplines with regard to schedule, information needs, technical standards, design criteria, quality control and engineering budget. Provides the production of projects on-time, in budget and of highest quality.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develops solutions for small to mid-scale engineering projects of low to high complexity.
  • Develops innovative design solutions and engineering production methods to enhance efficiency, quality, and production of work product.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of assigned projects.
  • Applies broad knowledge of principles and practices in a specific Burns service area.
  • Independently evaluates, selects and adapts standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Assures that the client receives the designs and opinions described in the contract between the company and the client, that the design is “economical” and that the cost of the project is within established budgets.
  • Develops solutions for small to mid-scale engineering projects of low to high complexity.
  • Learns the Burns project management process including client relationship development, proposal development and project management
  • Maintains high standards of professional and ethical conduct.Develops professional skills through professional organization involvement, project assignments, reading, formal education and seminars
  • Determines project design decisions in conjunction with legacy team members, based on client and project requirements, governing codes, and operational constraints.
  • Develops work breakdown tasks and structure for discipline and assigns work tasks to the project team.
  • Reviews discipline work and is responsible to provide complete and accurate work that meets the client’s requirements.
  • Assures work for specific discipline is on schedule for large projects and on schedule for all disciplines for small to moderate size projects.
  • Selects systems and prepares basis of design. Provides technical leadership in the coordination of design among all disciplines.
  • Assists the Project Manager in budget preparation.
  • Participates in developing client proposals by preparing scopes, budgets and schedules for assignments.
  • Identifies opportunities for future assignments with existing clients.
  • Develops fee for proposal with the Project Manager
  • Plans and coordinates tasks for the project team, answers questions, monitors progress.
  • Field observations/punch list.
  • Prepares specifications.
  • Directs staff in design approach including selection of appropriate analysis tools, code and Burns standards.
  • Responds to RFIs and prepares CBs.
  • Checks accuracy of work completed by others. Provides feedback to staff on accuracy of work and treats errors found ad learning opportunity.
  • Assigns tasks to and coordinates work with staff engineers, CAD or administrative staff
  • Coordinates with other disciplines.
  • Shops drawing rev
  • Stamps drawings if licensed.
  • Develops technical skills of staff using empathy, patience, understanding and a genuine interest in the technical betterment of those in the firm Reference of sounding board for other project engineers.
  • Assists in the review of other projects in discipline.
  • Involved in the development of staff engineers
  • Assists in the performance management process by providing feedback to the Project Manager for performance evaluations

Applies Burns project management methodology to manage projects

Key Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's (B.S.) Electrical Engineering degree

  • A minimum of 8 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • PE license is required at this level.
