We work in a collaborative and consultative way with our customers to develop the ideal material solution to optimize mechanical properties and chemical composition to achieve the desired product performance. We are currently hiring a supervisor 3 rd shift at our facility located in Madison, WI.
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for day-to-day direction of shift team members, health & safety, maintenance, and supporting engineering for the Madison facility. Ongoing focus areas will include: Continuous improvement, project management and Lean Management Operating System (MOS) - implementation and sustainment.
A successful candidate will understand and practice Servant Leadership to lead a production team through the manufacturing of materials from raw product to finished product. It also requires an enhanced ability to analyze data for equivalency, trends, and meet specifications while adhering to quality procedures and systems.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directly supervises up to 20 employees in the Production team, with both direct and indirect labor. Approving timecards for hourly staff every payroll cycle. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's Safety Philosophy, policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Plans and coordinates work, trains, motivates, monitors and evaluates performance of employees; ensures their ability to SAFELY operate equipment to produce product; counsels, records, and disciplines as necessary.
- Responsible for all processes, equipment, employees’ safety, and housekeeping of the entire operations area and meeting productions quality and quantity standards on the shift.
- Support the plant to manufacture and deliver quality products to meet customer expectations.
- Collaborate with members of the supply chain; operations, product management, and customer support teams, to engage and work effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Facilitate training and development in lean techniques.
- Active member of Plant Safety Team
- Initiate actions to prevent any non-conformances related to product, process and systems.
- Work with operational leadership to ensure appropriate plant KPIs are established.
- Investigate and understand MUV (Material Usage Variance) for the plant.
- Work directly with machine operators to identify needs and develop solutions; work with Maintenance on equipment modifications and preventative /predictive maintenance to ensure reliability.
- Identify, propose and execute projects to improve customer satisfaction, through performance and product reliability. Develops / improves product reliability, performance consistency and cost effectiveness.
- Provide manufacturing waste, Overall Equipment Effectiveness and other key operational reports to the site leadership team.
- Ensures Quality products and processes are maintained by:
- Understanding and supporting both quality policies and the Quality System while assisting with customer quality audits as needed.
- Performing work at a level that ensures quality of this position meets or exceeds internal and external customer specifications.
- Identifying and correcting if possible any identified quality issues both in the department and plant as a whole.
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 3 years in operational roles or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to lead, motivate, select, train and instruct personnel. Good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills are a must.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is a Plus
- Demonstrated Project Management skills are a must.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of ERP systems and ERP implementation protocols and procedures.
- Knowledge of continuous Improvement tools and their application (PDCA, root cause analysis etc.) Excellent problem solving skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to lead others, coach and model effective teamwork. Ability to plan, organize and handle a variety of tasks and responsibilities simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and self-directed. Ability to interface with all levels of management and external community contacts and possess strong relationship management and negotiation skills.
- Strong ability to influence and work through others to achieve results.
- Strong computer skills i.e. MS Office, pivot tables, and Share Point.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and legibly complete time cards and work orders. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and read blueprints and technical drawings, such as machine, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small groups situations to other employees of the organization. Ability to effective present information and respond to questions form groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variable in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
