ABOUT THE JOB:

Accurately estimates the labor and material costs on competitive bids. Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare estimates. Compensation will be based on the candidate's experience and local market value based on location.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews data to determine material and labor requirements and prepares cost estimates of steel pipe and fittings for competitive bids.
  • Analyzes data to determine manufacturing capabilities at individual facilities.
  • Overseas and manages cost estimates for multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Analyzes cost factors and develops detailed estimates to support planning, scheduling, bidding, vendor/subcontractor selection, and overall project cost efficiency.
  • Collaborates closely with the Sales team, delivering comprehensive scopes of work to create competitive and precise bids.
  • Partners with Project Managers post-award, providing detailed insights and guidance to ensure smooth project execution aligned with the original estimate.
  • Reviews estimates done by other Estimators, as needed.

JOB SCOPE:

  • Responsible for the accuracy of own estimates.
  • Responsible for the timely completion of own estimates.

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:

  • Interacts with plant management and operations, regional sales representatives and Estimating Manager on a daily basis to effectively bid projects.
  • Communicates with material suppliers and company purchasing group to obtain product quotes that conform to industry standards or to the project specifications.
  • Works closely with Project Managers and/or Project Designers when a project is won.
  • Assists Project Manager and/or Project Designers with change orders.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Must work and communicate well with peers, and other plant personnel.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products used by the company.
  • Must have a proficient understanding of civil engineering and surveying terms and methods.
  • Must be strong in mathematics through trigonometry.
  • Must possess a strong work ethic as well as strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation and without posting a direct threat to safety or health of employee or others.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Four-year undergraduate degree, preferred.
  • Or minimum of 2 years experience in related field.

  • Although individual duties are primarily sedentary, in the course of a normal day, additional physical activities can include bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, twisting, reaching and use of hands to finger as well as manipulate (lift, carry, and move) up to 10 pounds.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.
