Summary:

The Project Engineer is responsible for the coordination of construction projects, and providing technical and field support to Project Managers, Foreman, Superintendents, and Subcontractors. The Project Engineer manages medium to large projects through writing, negotiating and/ or reviewing the requirements of contracts and subcontracts; initiating and controlling all pre-construction activities such as scheduling and monitoring the acquisition of material, equipment, and manpower necessary to complete the project on or ahead of schedule and within budget.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive, log, prepare and distribute requests for information (RFI),
  • Review RFI questions and answer with supervisor for appropriateness and potential changes,
  • Manage the RFI process including creation of RFIs, submission, logging, tracking, hyper linking, and distribution to the project team,
  • Manage document control including electronic document file management, hyper linking of pertinent information (i.e. RFIs, submittals, sketches, and inspections), notification of updates and assistance to all team members,
  • Receive, log, prepare and distribute submittals,
  • Review submittal with supervisor for general compliance with the contract documents,
  • Pursue timely receipt of submittals and advise supervisor of late submittals,
  • Assist supervisor with reviewing and preparing change order proposals and change orders,
  • Perform quantity take-offs to assist the Project Manager with verifying change order proposal amounts,
  • Provide administrative assistance to the project team as required, including permit tracking, scheduling of inspections, contacting the subcontractors and other miscellaneous tasks,
  • Visit the jobsite(s) to gain an understanding of the relationship between the materials on site and submittals,
  • Serve as liaison to subcontractors, vendors, project team and corporations,
  • Coordinate and assist with project close-out documents, including procuring required documents from subcontractors, assembling and/or compiling documents to submission,
  • Maintain document control and distribution of construction documents for the project team, subcontractors, and vendors throughout the life of the project, including drawings, specifications, permits, RFIs, submittals, change orders, as-builts, and other relevant information,
  • Assist in the documentation of site meetings, including but not limited to owners, subcontractors, and quality control meetings, issuing meeting minutes timely,
  • Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent with documentation, permit tracking, scheduling of inspections, contacting subcontractors and other miscellaneous tasks,
  • Participate in industry-wide organizational events (career fairs, networking functions, trade shows, etc.) to represent the company,
  • Participate in meetings with project owners, subcontractors, and others and issue meeting minutes in a timely manner,
  • Enforce the safety protocols in accordance with the company's best practice policies and all other federal, state, local codes, laws, and regulations,
  • Ability to use the latest technology and software to complete projects as assigned,
  • May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred,
  • 1 to 3 years' prior experience in heavy highway construction preferred,
  • Ability to initiate tasks and execute accurately & effectively,
  • Must have a positive attitude and work ethic,
  • Ability to assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands,
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills,
  • Must be willing to travel if required,
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word & Excel),
  • An understanding of construction software (Heavy Bid, Vista, Bluebeam, Primavera) is preferred,
  • Must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills,
  • Must be self-motivated and dedicated to high-quality work,
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.

Working conditions:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer,
  • Finger dexterity for extensive amounts of typing
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time,
  • This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (glasses, contacts),
  • Regularly standing for extended periods,
  • Performing in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, or other extreme inclement weather conditions,
  • Occasionally climbing stairs,
  • Using personal and/or company vehicles for travel.
  • Reaching above shoulder heights and below the waist,
  • Exposure to constant noise,
  • Frequently walking on uneven surfaces, including ground in varying weather conditions.

Note: This is an on-site position and requires the ability to work in the office during standard business hours. Remote or hybrid arrangements are not available for this role.

Note: This position is considered Safety-Sensitive, and therefore subject to various schedule and unscheduled screenings for controlled substances.
