Orange County Utilities provides water resources and solid waste recovery services to protect and enrich the lives of the citizens and guests of Orange County Florida. The Field Services Division is responsiblefor the inspection, testing, regulatory compliance, operation, and maintenance of over 4,600 miles of pipeline, over 10,000 fire hydrants, and about 810 wastewater pump stations.

Orange County Utilities Field Services is seeking qualified individuals to fillEquipment Operator IV position. These positions require skilled advanced work operating complex heavy construction and maintenance equipment including performing routine safety checks and maintenance of the equipment as necessary.

Job Description

General Functions

Performs skilled advance work operating heavy construction and maintenance equipment.

Distinguishing Characteristics of Work:

This is skilled advanced work operating complex heavy construction and maintenance equipment in the performance of assigned duties. An employee in a position assigned to this classification is responsible for safe operation of the equipment. Responsibilities include performing routine safety checks and maintenance of the equipment as necessary. Work is assigned and reviewed by a designated supervisor. Performance is evaluated through observation of work in progress and upon completion for achievement of desired results in a safe, efficient manner.

Representative Duties/Assignments

  • Operates complex heavy equipment such as but not limited totankers, front-end loaders, dump trucks, backhoes, excavators, wheel loaders and cranes.
  • Performs or supervises loading and unloading of heavy equipment.
  • May supervise assigned Equipment Operators or work crew on a project basis.
  • Operates assigned equipment to dig ditches or canals.
  • Loads materials such as, sand or rock on trucks.
  • Performs more difficult finishing and grading operations to engineering specifications
  • Drives and maneuvers tractor trailers on yard dog at transfer stations and landfill for hauling and disposal operations.
  • Performs routine inspection of assigned equipment
  • Performs minor maintenance duties to check oil, fuel, water and air as necessary. Cleans and washes equipment.
  • May set up barricades and act as spotter or flagman.
  • Participates in general labor duties.
  • Coordinates utility line locations before excavating.
  • Performs excavations to grade and slope.
  • Performs work in accordance with engineering specifications.
  • May assist with development of heavy equipment training programs.
  • May assist with hosting of monthly heavy equipment trainer meetings.
  • May assist with development and revision of associated standard operating procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years experience in the operation and maintenance of medium to heavy automotive, construction or maintenance equipment.

Must be able to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

Required to possess and maintain the appropriate valid Florida Commercial Driver's License for the type of equipment operated.

Based on area of assignment:

Required to possess (or obtain within six months of hire) the appropriate valid Florida Commercial Driver's License for the type of equipment operated.

Preferences

Strongly prefer at least 1 - 3 years of underground construction experience.

Pay Grade: 110 - From $19.51 to $25.74
