Job Overview:
The Project Manager at Brekhus Tile & Stone, Inc. plays a pivotal role in managing tile and stone installation projects from inception to completion. This position combines estimating, budgeting, and project management skills to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The role requires a strong understanding of Colorado-specific construction regulations, safety standards, and employment compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimating:
- Review project specifications and blueprints to prepare accurate cost estimates for tile and stone installations.
- Perform takeoffs to determine the quantities of materials required.
- Assess labor costs, material quantities, and time requirements for each project.
- Solicit bids and proposals from contractors.
- Prepare detailed estimates and cost breakdowns.
- Analyze project scope, schedule, and budget to identify potential risks and cost-saving opportunities.
Project Management:
- Oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of tile and stone installation projects.
- Manage project schedules, ensuring all phases are completed on time and within scope.
- Collaborate with clients, architects, and subcontractors to meet project requirements.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor project progress, quality, and safety standards.
- Resolve on-site issues promptly and adjust schedules and resources, as necessary.
- Ensure all expenditures remain within the approved project budget.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including contracts, change orders, and progress reports.
Team Coordination:
- Direct the Field Superintendent and site personnel to ensure tasks are aligned with project plans and timelines.
- Lead regular meetings with the Field Superintendent and subcontractors to address project status, resolve issues, and provide direction.
- Ensure clear communication of roles and responsibilities among site personnel to avoid conflicts and delays.
- Foster a collaborative work environment while ensuring adherence to safety protocols and quality standards.
- Monitor job site performance, adjusting resources and timelines as needed.
Client Interaction:
- Meet with clients to understand their project needs and expectations.
- Provide expert advice on tile and stone selection, design, and installation.
- Review and finalize change orders, ensuring proper documentation is maintained.
- Address client concerns promptly and maintain strong, positive relationships.
Billing and Accounts Receivable:
- Collaborate with cost accountants weekly to review change orders and ensure timely invoicing for completed work.
- Work closely with accounting teams to track outstanding accounts receivable (A/R), ensuring timely payment and resolution of discrepancies.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in estimating and project management in the construction industry, particularly in tile and stone installation.
- Expertise in performing takeoffs and preparing detailed material lists.
- Proficiency in SAGE100 or similar construction software for project management, cost tracking, and estimating.
- Knowledge of Colorado's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and worker safety regulations.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Proficiency in using estimating software and project management tools.
- Solid understanding of cost estimation, budgeting, and scheduling.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results on time and within budget.
- Leadership capabilities to effectively manage project teams and ensure optimal performance.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or similar credentials.
- Experience with high-end residential or commercial tile and stone projects.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry construction materials.
- Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
