Position Information:
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Technician/Boiler Operator to join our Facilities team and support day-to-day operations to ensure our campus interiors and exteriors remain in excellent condition and meet compliance safety standards. The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver, team oriented, and committed to fostering a safe and efficient environment.
This is a full-time, benefits eligible opportunity working Monday-Friday. Typical start times range between 5:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., with end times between 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required based on business needs.
Work Location: Bloomington, MN in person
Duties:
Maintenance
Inspects building and grounds to determine nature and extent of repairs or maintenance needed
Operates, repairs, and maintains the HVAC systems including boilers, chillers, air handlers, and computerized climate control systems
Operates and maintains plumbing systems
Performs snow removal activities and maintenance of grounds, including sprinkler system and landscaping
Ensures all walkways and stairways are free of obstructions, trip hazards, snow, ice, etc.
Operates and tests all safety and emergency equipment
Cleans, paints, and maintains interiors and exteriors of buildings
Repair
Performs remodeling work; repairs sheet rock, replaces tile, repairs carpet, paints, assembles office systems, etc
Makes minor electrical, HVAC, and plumbing repairs
Makes minor safety and emergency equipment repairs
Makes necessary repairs to interiors and exteriors of buildings
Assist with the setup and take down of chairs, tables, etc. for various university events
Other duties and projects as assigned
What you need to have?
- High school diploma plus some specialized training of less than two years (e.g. technical school)
- Associate's degree, preferred
- Valid drivers license
- MN Engineer Boiler Operator license (2nd class, 1st class, or Chief Boiler's License). Special Engineer license may be considered if you are able to obtain 2nd class within 6 months.
- 1-3 years experience in general building maintenance
- Ability to lift and/or navigate a minimum of 50 pounds
Other Specialized Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, cooling, ventilating, and emergency equipment and systems
- Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, and repair
- Strong service, quality attitude, and initiative
- Attendance and reliability
- Promotes and supports safety and loss control programs to ensure a safe and healthy working environment, minimizing hazards and risks
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills

Compensation:
2nd Class Boiler Operator license: $25.84-$32.30
1st Class Boiler Operator license: $28.43-$35.53
Chief Boiler Operator license: $31.27-$38.25
The hiring rate is determined by a combination of education, related professional experience, and internal equity considerations and may exceed the posted range. NWHSU is committed to fair and equitable pay practices and does not base compensation decisions on gender or any other protected status.
