Construction Equipment Manager

Description
The Construction Equipment Manager is responsible for overseeing the management, maintenance, procurement, and allocation of all heavy machinery, tools, and equipment used across construction projects. This role ensures all equipment is in optimal working condition, compliant with safety standards, and readily available to support ongoing operations. The Equipment Manager also manages budgets, vendor relationships, and equipment logistics to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Manage the inventory, tracking, and allocation of all construction equipment, machinery, tools, and vehicles.
Schedule and coordinate routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs to ensure all equipment is safe, compliant, and operational.
Work closely with project managers and site supervisors to forecast equipment needs and deploy machinery to job sites efficiently.
Source, negotiate, and manage relationships with equipment vendors, rental companies, and service providers.
Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance history, and costs.
Develop and enforce equipment policies, safety protocols, and standard operating procedures.
Oversee equipment transportation logistics, ensuring timely delivery and pickup from job sites.
Manage budgets related to equipment procurement, maintenance, rentals, and repairs.
Train construction staff on the proper operation and safety practices for all machinery and tools.
Monitor and ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and other regulatory requirements related to equipment use and transportation.
Other duties as needed or assigned.
Requirements
Education & Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in construction management, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in equipment management within the construction industry.
Strong knowledge of construction equipment types, maintenance requirements, and safety regulations.
Excellent organizational and inventory management skills.
Strong negotiation and vendor management abilities.
Proficiency with equipment tracking and maintenance software.
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
Familiarity with DOT regulations and OSHA safety standards.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
This position is on site, often in remote or rural areas. Team members will be required to adhere to all safety requirements in all work environments.
Specific requirements include:
Ability to lift and move heavy equipment parts when necessary.
Exposure to varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind.
Work may involve heights, confined spaces, and mechanical equipment.
Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 50 pounds.
Prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, crouching, and climbing during onsite inspections.
Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment
Travel up to 75%
