GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:

The primary role of the Maintenance Planner/Scheduler is to improve work force productivity and work quality by eliminating in advance potential delays and obstacles through proper planning and coordination of parts, machine time and labor.

The Planner/Scheduler is responsible for the planning and scheduling of all maintenance in the area to which he/she is assigned. Works with the Supervisor/Line Engineer to ensure that schedules that are created will lead to the best probable outcome for maintenance. Maintains coordination between operations and maintenance programs. Records and maintains appropriate permits and results of work done.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Receives all work request, except for emergency and urgent work.
  • Assures all work request are of value and properly coded.
  • Attends daily sync meeting and discusses the details of work requested.
  • Ensures safety needs are given top priority in work planning.
  • Obtains blue prints, drawings, SJP, or special procedures, as needed.
  • Identifies and obtains materials and critical items, entering into the work order.
  • Maintains backlog of work order waiting planning and/or scheduling in accordance with NAS priority matrix.
  • Verify the availability of parts, materials and special tools required for job execution prior to job scheduling. This process involves walking down jobs with technicians and may involve accessing confined spaces, elevated areas, and other spaces with difficult accessibility.
  • Review the schedule and labor availability daily.
  • Develops a maintenance work schedule for the area maintenance supervisor.
  • Maintains knowledge of PM workload and compliance within area of responsibility.
  • Finalizes schedules with equal work labor hours to available work hours to provide a full weeks workload.
  • Write new and optimize existing Preventative Maintenance (PM) work orders into the JDE CMMS system.
  • Assists in maintaining the functional structure and assets within the CMMS.
  • Supports work management within the CMMS.
  • Author PM Work orders such that a minimally qualified technician can effectively complete it with the same accuracy as the most experienced technician.
  • Seeks feedback from personnel upon scheduled job completion and updates future job planning accordingly. This may involve physically performing the work order with the technician on occasion.

SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Other duties as assigned
  • Participation in relevant continuous improvement programs.
  • Extended hours during scheduled outage periods.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Mechanical background desired. Special cases from outside the maintenance department will be reviewed at the discretion of MTC management.
  • Good oral/written communication skills
  • Good administrative and mathematical skills
  • Working knowledge of computers or can be trained in a reasonable amount of time
  • Good planning, and organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Able to read blueprints
  • Understanding of the CMMS system and coding
  • Understand work order priorities and scheduling
  • Ability to communicate reliability best practices, condition based monitoring, and precision methods
  • Must pass all required PM Planner training and obtain the level of certification required by the PM Planner Competency Evaluation

PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Mobility in plant
  • While performing the duties of (this job), the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, etc.
  • The employee is frequently required to make use of their hands for technical tasks
  • Strength and Agility: Lifting - occ. - 80#, carrying - occ. 150 ft., push/pull - occ.
  • 80#, climbing - freq., balancing - occ., bending - cc., stooping - occ., crouching
  • occ., kneeling - occ., crawling - occ., running - occ., twisting - occ., turning - occ.
  • Employee must be physically/mentally capable of traveling up and down ladders, stairs, and entering confined spaces.
  • Visual ability with or without correction
  • Communication abilities

HEALTH AND SAFETY:

  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
  • Follow Company safety rules
  • Report the absence of or defect in any protective equipment or clothing to the Supervisor or Manager immediately
  • Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that is required to be used or worn:
  • Safety shoes
  • Safety glasses
  • Hearing protection
  • Hard Hat

Some areas may require additional personal protective equipment such as:

  • Respirators; the respirator requires you to be clean shaven in order to comply with company policies and procedures as well as OSHA Regulations.
  • Fire Retardant clothing
  • Acid PPE
  • Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy
  • Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines
  • Must follow all Environmental Policies and Regulations
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations
  • Work in compliance with Environmental Protection Agency rules and regulations.
