The overall function of this position is to assist the Engineer 6 in the activities of the Project Engineer's office located in Winnsboro, LA by supervising a team of Engineering Technicians engaged in construction, field inspection, and office duties. This position is located in District 58, Unit 211 and reports directly to the Engineer 6.
Minimum Qualifications
Generic Option: Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus five years of sub-professional engineering experience.
DOTD Maintenance Option: Possession of a high school diploma or GED plus five years of experience in the construction or maintenance of public streets, roads, bridges, highways or associated structures; or in the maintenance or repair of mechanical or electronic office equipment, precision machinery, or electronic and electrical systems.
SUBSTITUTIONS (applies to both options):
Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance will substitute for the high school diploma or GED.
College training will substitute for a maximum of four years of the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience, provided that six semester hours of each thirty are in one of these specialized fields: architecture, cartography, chemistry, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, geography, geology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math or physics. All specialized coursework must be in the same specialized field. A combination of coursework from different fields will not be accepted.
Full time training in sub-professional engineering from a trade school or technical institute will substitute for the required experience on a month for month basis for a maximum of one year of experience.
Completion of a two year course of study in a sub-professional engineering curriculum from a trade school or technical institute will substitute for two years of the required experience.
A baccalaureate degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or construction technology will substitute for all of the required experience.
Possession of an engineer intern certificate will substitute for all of the required experience.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Supervises a team of employees engaged in inspection of construction projects, determines work assignments, reviews and approves work, recommends hiring, promotions, merit increases, disciplinary actions. Evaluates performance (conducts PPR's), trains and /or schedules the training of staff, approves leave and work schedules. Oversees subordinate personnel engaged in monitoring the work of contracted personnel for compliance with plans and specifications. Prepares necessary work reports as required.
Computes and checks quantities, computation sheets, cross sections, related field books, and other data to determine that quantities have been computed according to specifications, plans, and special provisions established by the department. Reviews the computation of subordinates and /or contracted personnel ensuring the accuracy of figures and timeliness of reports.
Instructs subordinates in inspecting for quality of materials and the methods of removal and placement of materials. Ensures that subordinates are trained in the proper use of equipment and supplies. Keeps accurate inventory (quantity and quality) of equipment and supplies, requests additional materials, supplies, and/or equipment as needed.
Provides contractors, and other interested parties with project-related information as requested/required.
Performs additional duties as necessary to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Project Engineer's office.
May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities. May be subpoenaed as requested by DOTD legal Counsel. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Appointment Type: Promotional, or Probation in Lieu of Promotion, or Detail to Special Duty
Career Progression: This position does not participate in a CPG and will be filled as an Engineering Technician 7.
Work Schedule: Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
Compensation: Ranges from$24.04/hr - $43.28/hr.
