Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Type: Contract
Compensation: $63 - $80 hourly
Contractor Work Model: Remote

System One is actively seeking a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of advanced nuclear reactor technology. This role plays a pivotal part in designing key components of the Natrium Generation IV Reactor, including core components, reactor structures, and critical systems within the Nuclear Island. Youll be part of a cutting-edge, high-performing team of engineers and scientists revolutionizing the future of clean energy.

Key Responsibilities:

Design equipment and reactor components based on input from engineering and project teams

Develop documentation for component testing and analysis

Conduct mechanical analyses using FEA tools like ANSYS

Lead design reviews and guide junior engineers and subcontractors

Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles

Collaborate across disciplines to deliver innovative and compliant design solutions

Prepare and present technical data and deliverables for internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications:

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field (advanced degrees a plus)

5+ years of mechanical equipment/component design experience

Experience with SolidWorks and 3D CAD design tools

Strong background in FEA, stress analysis, and mechanical calculations (preferably with ANSYS)

Familiarity with ASME BPVC Section III or VIII, and seismic analysis standards (ASCE 4/7/43) is highly desirable

Proven experience in writing test plans and technical specifications

Strong communication, leadership, and mentorship skills

Preferred Experience:

Design of core assemblies (fuel/control) in the nuclear industry

Familiarity with ASME BPVC Section III Division 5

Experience with Flow-Induced Vibration (FIV) or Comprehensive Vibration Assessment Programs (CVAP)

Background in experimental design and product testing in highly regulated environments
